Btw, here's a link to the survey for anyone who hasn't found it yet:
Here's what I wrote for my additional comments:
I am an off roader and fly fisher. While it's always difficult to lose access to OHV trails, I believe that the Castle area is too sensitive to support motorized OHV trails. I would rather see the OHV trails closed entirely in the Castle and new, sustainable trails created in a nearby location. If the trails are closed without providing new trails in their stead then OHV users will simply find places to make their own trails in areas that are equally sensitive like along highway 40.I also feel that unless there is more money put into enforcement that many of the goals of the enhanced protection won't be met. There currently seem to be too few Fish & Wildlife and Conservation officers to cover large regions. Without additional officers to enforce new regulations, people will continue to treat the area like the "wild west" environment that currently exists.- 1

It isn't a tent, it's a mobile tree fort.Great trip. Great photos. Honestly, taken most by your tent. Too cool!

Decided to take an extra day off and make a 4 day weekend for Labour Day so I headed out to the 40 to do some camping and fishing. Left Friday morning before the long weekend rush started. Almost right away I realized I forgot my camera bag by the front door so these are all cell phone pics unfortunately.
Stopped on the 532 to air my tires down a bit to smooth out the ride.

Nearing the Plateau I saw the first signs that the weather might not be the greatest.

But once I got to the Oldman I forgot about the weather.

After a while I saw a constant stream of 5th wheels heading up the highway and I could see the bad weather heading in. Decided to head to Dutch Creek and grab a campsite. Shortly after dinner the rain started so I hopped in the tent and read for a while before bed. The next morning the rain was still going full on, so I decided instead of packing the tent up wet I'd stay around the campground and fish Dutch Creek. No pictures because of the steady rain. A little after getting back in the tent that night I couldn't hear the rain any more but when I looked outside I realized that was because it had turned to snow. It was obvious the next morning that quite a bit came down at the higher elevations.

Pretty decent spot for a provincial campground. Luckily the rain and snow had stopped.IMG_20150904_163952 by Marc Fossi, on FlickrPicked up a griddle for my Magma grill and made some bacon and eggs for breakfast.IMG_20150906_085000 by Marc Fossi, on FlickrStill some snow around.IMG_20150906_084316 by Marc Fossi, on FlickrHit the Oldman again with low cloud around.IMG_20150906_105143 by Marc Fossi, on FlickrStill had the tarp set up in case the weather turned again.IMG_20150906_145731 by Marc Fossi, on FlickrWithout any rain or snow I grilled up some dinner. Camping plates are too small though.IMG_20150906_173155 by Marc Fossi, on FlickrStill some nasty looking clouds hanging around but there was no more rain or snow after Saturday.IMG_20150906_175919 by Marc Fossi, on FlickrStopped by the Cutty Hut after dinner and met Al for the first time. We had some beers and shot the *hit for a while. I ran out of beers and it was getting dark so I headed back to my campsite while it was still light enough to find my way back. Luckily I had more beer in the fridge and some firewood.Pumping out some decent BTUs.IMG_20150906_214340 by Marc Fossi, on FlickrThe Magma griddle in action this morning.IMG_20150907_082322 by Marc Fossi, on FlickrFrost melting off my trusty old hatchet.IMG_20150907_085309 by Marc Fossi, on FlickrAfter I packed up camp I headed back to the Oldman to make some new friends. Yeah so anyways, back to the original topic of notjetboats.
This is always a risk.. I just think a pile of us respectfully showing up "in uniform" would send a huge message. If we could get enough confirmation ahead of time I could also draft a press release and see if it might get some media attention.
I had a nice chat with a F&W officer yesterday morning on the banks of the Oldman. He mentioned this incident and I got the impression he was one of the responding officers from the way he talked about it. I told him that guys were thinking of going to the hearing on the 29th and he thought that was a good idea to show that people actually care about this stuff.

Sorry but that article is in the mainstream media (the lefty CBC no less!) so I don't believe it. Had it supported my views and beliefs, then it'd be a different story.

^^^ Agreed, the Patagonia Stormfront stuff is bomb proof. It's not cheap, but when compared to the cost of replacing a DSLR and lenses...

Post a pic of your fishing pooches!

Just seems that whatever I'm trying to get out of the sling has always made its way to the very bottom. You guys must be doing a hell of a lot of digging.
Tried this and found it shifted around too much on me. I have the same issue with the messenger bag I use for work.I also only do up the one strap so I don't have to undo anything to swing it around.
-
I recently went from a sling back to a vest. Got tired of always having to unclip the strap, rotate the sling to the front, open a zipper, root around for what I needed, rotate sling to back, do up strap, undo strap, rotate to front again, close zipper because I left it open, rotate to back, do up strap, undo strap, rotate to front again, open zipper, grab floatant because I forgot it, actually remember to close zipper this time, rotate to back, do up strap, fish. I just found that the sling seems like a great idea in theory but in practice it's more of a nuisance. The vest looks a little geeky but I waste way less time looking for things and spend more time fishing.

So I guess you've never exceeded the speed limit, run a yellow light, or rolled a stop sign? Made a right turn on a red light without coming to a complete stop first? The list goes on and on...Maybe we should back up the train here for a minute. All the Alberta municipalities I am aware of require dogs to be kept on a leash except within specified off-leash parks. Here is the listing from the Mountain View County by-laws:
3.03 (a) No person who is the Owner or Keeper of any Dog shall permit such
Dog to run at large within the corporate limits of the County.
So, if you are out fishing with your dog running loose, you are really no different than poachers, people who ride ATVs through the river or those who camp where they are not allowed to. The above actions are all a result of people choosing not to obey by-laws. This is not about whether your dog is well-behaved so you don't need to obey the law. It's about obeying the laws where we live. We don't get the option of picking and choosing which laws apply to us. As good citizens we are responsible to obey ALL the laws, including the ones that we don't like, whether that means not fishing when the streams are closed or keeping our dogs on a leash.

Michel is now closed...Drove past Michel Crk tuesday, at hwy 3 bridge it was 19.5c at 2:35pm so I didn't spend the $21. Saw 2 others close by though. Pretty low flow on it too.
-
Close everything until Sept.
Keep the closures based on defensible science otherwise we'll get random closures (or lack of closures) for random reasons.

Anyone get some mountain stream temp readings lately?
I don't think anyone is willing to admit that they've been fishing out there for fear of getting ragged on.

Here's the way I trained mine for fishing specifically. I first brought him out when he was less than a year old and still extremely high energy (he's a terrier), but he got bored pretty quick and wandered off. Took me a little while to find him so back to the car we went. The next time I brought him fishing we first went for a walk and played some fetch to tire him out. Then we went down to the river and I let him go in the water to cool off a bit. Walked down to where I planned to fish then threw the ball for him some more at that spot. I left my pack on the bank with him for him to "guard" while I was fishing and left the ball with him as well. I stopped fishing frequently to play some more fetch with him. That's pretty much how I fished with him all the time until he got older and started to slow down a bit. I still keep a ball in my fishing pack and sometimes just stop fishing for a while to sit on the bank with him.
It's going to vary with every dog because of different energy levels and personalities though. Since your dog is a cross between two working breeds you might have to give him a job to do so he doesn't get bored. Just remember that for the first bunch of times you take him you'll probably spend more time training than fishing.

because this foul mouthed guy from the center right thinks that ezra levant is one reason that right wing politics is so divided in Alberta that we are likely to have a 2 or 3 term NDP government if Notley is at all a competent leader. I love how the hard right boys bitch and moan about how left wing the media in Canada is and then take the slanted BS that comes outta Ezra's self serving mind and mouth as gospel.
Prime damn reason I voted Anything But.
I want to like this post multiple times but the forum won't let me.

And you would be walking the river why?
I walk my dog along the river all the time even when I'm not fishing...
-
I'm not convinced this would have made a huge difference this year. The snow pack was so minimal and even our runoff was laughable at best. Just a bad year.
I think the "runoff" we saw was just TransAlta lowering the reservoir the 2 metres they were ordered to.

I sent out some info on the closure from Councillor Keating's FB page earlier. Nenshi is away for all of August, so I highly doubt he has his finger on the pulse. If I see his Chief of Staff in the hallway I'll ask him about this.
Got a reply from Daorcey:
-
Are these closures unprecedented,or have they closed the Bow in years past?
First time I'm aware of in 20+ years of fishing it.

Ok, so like I said in the other thread, the water temps are directly related to the low flows this year. If there's so little water then why hasn't the city imposed any sort of water restrictions?

Ouch. I feel terrible for the Oldman and tribs...Crowsnest was 20 degrees last week...
yikes
The Oldman is gonna end up looking like that combat fishing video Don posted the other day...

I suspect this was a leek that Alberta Outdoorsmen jumped on. They were putting all of this information on Twitter. Awaiting verification.
Like I said in the other thread, maybe consider deleting until there's something official from AWA or SRD to link to. Until then that may not be a comprehensive list and is rumour/conjecture.
