  1. I think a lot of people are missing the point of this show.

If you don't like to talk to people and you are just there to LOOK your probably going to be happiest when you leave.

However if you took the opportunity to talk to some of the best fisher people in the industry and pick their brain, if you took advantage of the fact the you had hundreds of rods to cast and find the one that fit you, If you took the time to attend seminars then you probably felt like the show is an incredible opportunity and you were sad to see it wrap up.

Im a big fan of the show. I think if you go for knowledge and to build relationships its a huge win. When i started out fly fishing i would spend the whole weekend at the seminars it took my game to the next level and gave me the foundation i needed to get started.

I just cant figure out how someone can go there and not cast at least a dozen rods on the pond. That is by far my favorite part. Looking forward to next year.

  2. I disagree - it was smaller than in past years. It looks like they tried to make it seem like there were as many exhibitors as before by putting curtains up on the one side (the left when you walk in the door where one of the presentation theatres used to be) to make the space smaller.

Not as many exhibitors as before either. Where were Loomis, Echo, Winston, Scott, Airflo, Patagonia, Simms? Pretty sure those companies were here in the past.

I agree, I would have liked to see them there too. I just take it as, 'you don't want to come up to western Canada? That's cool, I'll just buy a Fishpond pack, or Sage/Redington/Loop/Blue Halo/TFO rod, Watermaster craft, etc. instead!'

I like the local flavour that was there today though. Lots of Western Canada/Alberta booths, which I like to see.

Great fun at the FFC booth, thanks very much to Murray and SilverDoctor for organizing it. Teaching all those kids to tie flies will go down as a highlight of 2016!

  3. I used oakley prescription sunglasses for years.. Last year I switched to Maui Jims and I dont think I'll look back!

The Maui HT lens has amazing polarization at all conditions. I love the contrast and the low light performance of those lenses. Overall great lens for fishing and sighting fish.

I think Oakley's QC process is better than Maui Jim's though. I had to send the first two pairs of MJs back. On the first pair the top right corner didn't have any prescription, so if I were driving with them my vision would be blurry when I shoulder checked or checked the mirror. On the second pair the polarization formed a + sign on the lens which was really annoying. Both times MJ took the glasses back and by the 3rd pair everything was ok. I'm not sure if the high curvature of the lenses (based on the world cup frame) was my issue, but at least MJ was determined to fix it for me. I never had a problem with any of my 4 oakleys, the polarization and contrast just isn't as good as the Maui HT's.

I hear guys swear by the Smith Chromapop's too, but I'm not sure how easy it is to get them in prescription.

  4. I have General Grabbers A/T2's (stud-able) on my Canyon that I leave on year round and they are great in the snow and decent on ice. I got them 25% off at CT.

Our Subaru has Blizzaks in the winter and they are great.

I have these on my 4runner too.. I love them in summer, not so awesome (IMO) in winter. Decent on snow, but poor stopping times on ice.

  5. And one last one for BobLoblaw :)

Thanks to all my buddies & new friends I've met for letting me photograph them. 2016 may be a little quieter as baby Redbeard #2 is coming.
