  1. I was in Belize for about 2 weeks at the end of Aug/beginning of Sept. I got home about a week ago. While I was down there I did some fly fishing. I did a bunch of fly fishing right from the dock of the place I was staying at and did a few days of flats/lagoon fishing looking for bonefish, tarpon and permit. Here are some pictures of fish I caught from the docks, they are not big but they were still fun to catch:

    - a cuda tried to eat this guy:

Went out 2 days with a guide to look mostly for bonefish. I did see tarpon and Permit, I never got close to catching either but my friend who I was in Belize with caught about a 30 lb tarpon and just missed a Permit for the grand slam. Here are some pictures of my bonefishing experience:

I was also able to catch a few cuda's. I have to say I had the most fun with them, here is a picture with one of my cuda's, the other I caught was about the same size:

Something else "fish" related was that I got to swim with a bunch of nurse sharks, I even got to hold one:

I had a blast in Belize. It was my first time doing any salt water fly fishing (I only started fly fishing a few months ago). I found the wind to be a bit tricky but I was still able to have fun and catch fish. I think in the future I will look to do more salt water fly fishing.

    Cheers

  2. Hey,

I am going to Belize in a few weeks to fish and hang out. On my own I will be looking to catch bonefish and maybe just maybe I might find a Permit. I will take a guide to go for Tarpon. Anyways what I am wondering is how important is fly colour when fishing for bonefish and other saltwater fish in Belize. I am familar with what patterns I should take with me but I am not really sure what colours of flys to take with me. Can anyone make some recommendations?

    Thanks

  3. Hi,

Just wondering if anyone could suggest a good underwater camera for taking fish pictures. I have seen some cool underwater pictures on this forum and was wondering if anyone could suggest a good camera. I am going to Belize in a few weeks and am looking to take a good underwater camera so I can take pictures of the cool fish I catch as well as underwater pictures while I am snorkling.

    Suggestions are appreciated

    Thanks

    Connie

  4. Hi,

I am pretty new to fly fishing but with me getting into it my Dad has also started to take a liking to it. I currently have a Sage Flight 5wt and a TFO BVK II (I think it is a number 2) reel. What I am wondering is what would be a good second setup to have? My Dad wants to buy something that I don't already have but that he could get use of in the bow as well.

Please let me know your thoughts

    Cheers

  5. I remember you!

You were down at Policemans. There was a big bunch of us there. I remember you saying "stupid fish" after the one got off.

    Congrats!

haha yeah I did say "stupid fish" after I hooked him and he ran right into a bunch of rocks and a big log, snagging me up and causing me to lose the fish and my gear (nymph and SJW). I caught this one in the same spot but I didn't let this guy run into the rocks and logs. I'm too used to salmon fishing where you just let the fish run. I see fishing around logs and rocks in a river is much different, good skill to learn.

  6. Hey,

Last night I caught my first Bow River Trout, a nice Brown. I just started fly fishing, I took a casting course through Fish Tales and just bought my own gear last friday. I have also been watching a number of YouTube videos for tips on nymphing and other fly fishing techniques. Before last night I had been out fishing twice with no luck. I am very happy with my first catch from the Bow River.

  7. Hello,

I am not new to fishing but I am brand new to fly fishing. I have lived in Calgary my entire life but have never taken advantage of the fishing around here until now. I am just getting started and I have a lot to learn but I am eager. I tried fishing by the bridge down from Burnco off of Glenmore on the weekend but I had no luck. I did see a few fish rise but did not catch anything. I tried nymphing and a dry fly. What I am wondering is if anyone could let me know about any nice fishing spots within the city or close to Calgary that I could get to after work or for a few hrs on the weekend. Also I would be more than happy to fish with someone in order to learn a thing or two.

Thanks for reading and please let me know if you have any suggestions :)

    Connie
