  1. I think the problem in the latter area is more a function of people, construction and development than dogs. Over a decade ago, there were just as many dogs there, and fewer of us, but there was also more difficult access. Now, there is easy access, and ample parking in that area, (yet people are so lazy, they not only drive and park as close to the bank as possible, they also drive up and down the bank). There has also been construction on and off in that area for a number of years, both of these causing infinitely more damage than a few dogs. That said, it's amazing how many people don't have the courtesy to pick up after their dogs.

.....I blame it on Facebook, Twitter, and handing out trophies for last place! <--poke--<

    Good point.

  2. Not trying to create a stir here but are there other guys/gals who feel the same way about off leash dogs along the river? 20 years ago, you might see an off leash dog out for a walk with someone once in a while, now it seems they are nearly everywhere. I get concerned with habitat damage in the Southland off leash area(I know the city has done a lot of work to control) but the amount of damage in areas where the dogs run up and down the banks is excessive. Another area I like to fish is down by the Pine Creek water treatment area. This is an unoffical off leash area. This area is now getting trampled to the point where the bank is becoming unstable in areas and the vegetation is becoming denuded (if thats a word!). I am all for off leash areas folks, I just get concerned with off leash areas in sensitive areas. I fully support off leash areas that are fenced and do not contain wetlands/sensitive areas. Does anyone else feel the same way?

  3. Good discussion. I would agree that the intent for furled is dry fly and is a perfect match for my nice little 8 ft 5 wt sage. I did try it nymphing/w indicator but at the risk of damaging the leader found it wasnt worth it. Great for turning over the leader and landing a dry softly though....

  4. Nice pics. Congrats. Last time I was within 10 feet of a bear was a grizz along the castle r. scared the crap out of me as I slowly moved away while not making eye contact watching the bear slowly move away up a gradient so steep, watching me carefully. I hate bear encounters...scares me everytime ...

  5. Awesome fish

Doubt its a char from Lott Creek as it would have had to survive the spill over Glenmore then the run down to the Bow, but you never know...Looks like a Lake Trout but beats me...

  6. My vote is brook-brown X. Dont know how as the Brown is salmonoid and the bull is char family, kinda two different families but I am not a biologist. I did find this though...Google

Hybrid populations of char occur in some North American habitats, such as the splake (brook trout x lake trout), the brook trout x bull trout hybrid, and the tiger trout, a cross between brook trout and nonnative brown trout.

I also know I used to catch tons of brookies in that watershed along with the bulls and rainbows. Dungarven has lots of brookies.

A rare fish to be sure....especially if occuring naturally...

  7. Good day to all. I have been extremely curious (for the past 40 years) if by removing the weir(in effect) if the big Bows and Browns downstream would make the trip up into the middle Bow and up the Elbow for spawning. I have always felt that if the Elbow was available, the Bows would utilize it. I know the Browns run up in the fall.

Has anyone nticed Redds in the Elbow or on the Bow abpove the Weir...

  8. It is only "just like a bearing buddy " in that it pushes grease.

Bearing buddies will push grease and any contaminates thru the two bearings and then out past a seal

Eze lube axels will force the grease to push away any contaminates from the bearings.

For anyone considering adding a set of Bearing Buddies I would suggest you save your money up and invest in a new axel. I am sure some are saying "are you nuts"

You can purchase a complete new axel assembly for 160.00, you drop the old and intall the new. The days of repacking bearings or replacing them every two years is over.

You can even step up the axel size from a 2000lbs to a 3500lbs for about $20.00 more. With stepping up the size you would need to purchase new bigger U-bolts.

I agree, I bought a complete axle and wheel set from Princess auto for $129.00 (on sale) I am going to always have a spare axle (bought on sale) on hand and simply replace teh works every couple of years. It took 1/2 hour to change the axle versus 2-3 hours repacking bearings/running around trying to find bearings, yada yada, yada...
