Maybe they should have called this section "technical help and suggestions"
If they called it that I would have to start every post with "Did you try rebooting?"

Well maybe the coverage I was watching where the conservatives swept Alberta and where the riding results showed no races I remember that could reasonably be called contests were just media hype. Damn CTV. Possibly you are talking about percentage of refgistered voters?
You bet, I'm using the number of people who voted conservative in Alberta versus Alberta's population. Using just the registered voters though 64% voted Conservative, not exactly an overwhelming majority in my opinion. Somebody had to win didn't they? And like I said, thankfully conservatives to protect against the Liberals. As for the media hype, it's just that, hype, and you sound a lot smarter than me so should know better.
Interesting however that when the conservatives sweep an area its a check and balance, but when the other side sweeps they are self serving. I'm excluding the bloc here as I consider them mostly irrelevant.Well, I'm not saying the Conservatives are any less self serving than Liberals but still, checks and balances. I'm sure 1.3 million Quebecois would disagree with you though.
As I said, I probably vote conservative here as well (which makes me a self serving bastard), but I stil maintain the system here is a bit out of whack. Us against them is not healthy, regardless of which side you are onTrue that.
-
I'd hardly call 23% of Albertans voting Conservative a herd mentality. But fortunately for those 821,000 their vote was all the checks and balances we needed to protect against the Bloc and self serving Liberals of the East.

Russ- cheers for that. I actually asked another buddy to borrow his 10 wt, but he is a bit scetchy, so I may hit you up. I've heard you can't trust people from Cape Breton
That's just wrong! Your buddy from Cape Breton is likely nothing but an outstanding fella. If your going for Bonefish a 10wt would be a little overkill, I was fine with an 8wt. My 8,9, or 10 are all at your disposable if needed. Also if your doing any wading I have flats boots you can use. Definitely learn to double haul.

Never heard of eating white fish? Any body have any expierience here haha
I'd never eat anything out of the Bow, but whities taste good out of the Crow in the winter.

Hey. That picture taken from Margaree harbour, if you look behind you on the other side of the harbour, there's a house with a brand new garage. Next to a red barn of a house. My parents live there.
Anyways, nice pics man. I was down Margaree for 19 days in July. Fishing was decent. Did you fish or see any fish at Middle River? How was Cheticamp? Did you hit up North River? Cool to see some pics from up there. Were you there when they got 4.5 inches of rain in 6 hours? I got some killer pics of it. My dad fishes just about every day. Blue Izuzu Trooper.
That's cool man, small world. Sont vous Acadien? Your dad is a lucky man. You wouldn't believe the number of parents I ran into that said their son/daughter was out West. I did see fish in Middle River and made a crap load of casts to 3 large salmon and a grilse in one of the bridge pools but no takers, the last pic in my first post is where someone caught a grilse the day before. Cheticamp was great, I mountain biked the 5km along the river. The Doryman probably has one of the best views for any pub in Canada eh? Although after a while it gets kinda blurry I was not there when they got the 4.5 inches of rain but perhaps the day or so afterwards since the Margaree was unfishable and the others high as well. Cheers.

A trip to Cape Breton wouldn't be complete without a trip to the Lick a Chick, best chicken this side of the Causeway
Took this picture while drinking morning coffee on the couch at my Dad's house:
This is the lake I grew up fishing on:
This would be an average brook trout from the lake:
Couple of Atlantic Salmon pics here: http://flyfishcalgary.com/board/index.php?showtopic=6174

Spent 8 days back home and took a few pics to share:

Congrats Glen, not on the fish but on the fact you managed to make it out fishing this year.

This article is almost 4 years old. If I experienced what this fella wrote in regards to the crowding and steady stream of drift boats then I would want to do something about it too. I had never been to the Elk prior to the regulation change but a couple of years later I've gone 3 or 4 times and had a great experience. There was no crowding and no steady stream of drift boats. It would seem what the B.C. Government hoped to achieve has been working.
Calgary has 1 million people that are within 3 1/2 hours of these rivers. Name a BC city of more than 50,000 that is within 6 hours.Perhaps your proving the guys point that maybe there were just too many Albertan's flooding these rivers? I don't see any hidden agenda or government conspiracy, that type of fiction should be left to the movies and shows like the X-files, I think the editor had it bang on:
The nub of these new fishing regulations in southeastern BC is not about the fish (but they will surely benefit) nor is it about non-resident fishing license fees (although the additional revenue provided by residents, non-residents and guides will finance the enhanced management). The nub of the matter is sustaining the high quality fishing experiences which attract all of us to these waters. We all have a different definition of quality, but the emerging combat style of fishing I now encounter regularly on these waters does not fall into my definition and I expect, does not match many others as well.So....short term pain, hopefully for long term gain.

Wow, talk about over coming obstacles.

I think all of the Nautilus reels except the FW series come with the CCF brake. Don't think I've put 100+ days on any of them since I bought them all in the last year. Sounds to me if it did happen to my FW that it'd be a warranty issue and I'd just send it back to Kristen.
Actually the FW series comes with the CCF brake system as well including all the other Nautilus reels. The difference is in the name, the original Nautilus CCF reels are now just called Nautilus 8, Nautilus 10, and Nautilus 12. They and the 12T have the similar spool system (they screw tight, like the Loop) where as the FW's have the "quick release" spring loaded spool system. Maybe that's what he meant?
What are the adverse effects of having a "floating" spool?
-
Hey Tim,
I just bought a 4 wt Z-Axis and paired it with the Nautilus FW 3+, awesome setup so far. Another thing to consider about the Nautilus FW plus reels is the ability to interchange with regular Nautilus FW and the + spools giving you the ability to change between several line weights by merely the swap of a spool.
Like Paulie (I can't believe you call yourself Paulie) said, try Rusty's out even though I'm sure my FW 3+ is way nicer than his FW 5.
As for the Z-Axis, wow! It's almost my favorite.

Kind of relates back to my childhood years riding dirt bikes back home in Cape Breton. A good number of people that rode dirt bikes called them "Honda's". It didn't matter if it was a Kawasaki, Suzuki, Yamaha, KTM.. whatever.. it was "a honda".
I'm from Cape Breton and I've never heard of that? Are you from Meat Cove?

You should see the other pictures he made me take.

Happy Birthday old man!

When I worked at my old job, Jim Dinning told me that he used to get his fish smoked through Billingsgate. If he liked it and was a faithful customer, I'm sure it's pretty good.
Thanks, I'll give them a call today.
-
Can anyone recommend a good place in the Calgary area to get some Sockeye salmon smoked that is reasonably priced? I've given some away but still have about 50lbs.
Thanks.

Very cool Brian!

I've got a pair of SIMMS that leaked just as fast as all the other brands I've had over the years. Have the 8x's now and find they have a few functional features that the overpriced SIMMS don't such as built in gravel guards, built in wading belt and shoulder straps, more pocket room and when zipped the pockets are waterproof unlike the SIMMS if you happen to go too deep. Also the cloudveils are designed so that you can roll down the chest portion to the waist and use them as pants, great if you happen to do any summer wading in the city of Calgary. I think SIMMS newest models are catching up with the added features but you'll pay a lot for them. For 297.00 I'd say go for it, but check Ebay first sometimes they are on there for 225.00.
As far as the two left feet, I checked mine and honestly can't tell the difference, but maybe I've got my white tube socks on the wrong feet too.

Rob, way to hijack a thread for the opportunity to brag Nice fish though, Rusty and I were out there this morning for about 3hrs and caught some nice ones, the birds and fish are both gorging on the big chronies. I'm 0/3 on the 8lb+ fish though, lost number 3 this morning on a jump.

Hi Kyle,
William Joseph makes a great rain jacket that's light and packs down to almost nothing, Fishtales sells them, when I bought mine it was under 100 bucks I believe. I also have a Cloudveil jacket that I love that you can also get from Fishtales and Wholesale sports, (Fishtales is cheaper).
You may want to check the Buy/Sell at www.fishbc.com, a couple of days ago the ex-Simms rep posted the last of his sample gear including a large Freestone rain jacket for $125.00. I bought a Simms super light jacket from him and he didn't charge me shipping.

To generate interest in Calgarians why not try having a meeting in Calgary? Or would that be too simple? I'm sure you'd have a huge turnout. Maybe the Fisheries universe doesn't extend into this side of the province? Maybe a good analogy would be if you want a cheerful rally for republicans you don't invite any democrats?
I doubt I would make the 3 hour drive to Edmonton, a big city I've never been just to share an opinion when there are much cheaper options like online forums and email. The gas alone would be expensive, maybe that's why they don't make the drive from head offices in Edmonton, due to the amount of funding F & W recieves in Alberta they probably can't afford the gas.
In my opinion.
