Here are two nymphs from my fly-box, which often work over here. I chosen them for their simplicity. The Mono-Ribbed Caddis and the See-Through Blood Sucker

The Superfly dye we have been using, Mike every day for the last 2 weeks, seems to have a deeper richer color and doesn't run. sets quick, cool aid for me in the past depending on what we are dying can take day's and isn't as deep of color.The polar bear we are dying right now sometimes only sits in the dye for a couple of minutes depending on intensity wanted.
Otherwise we leave it in over night. We have some dye left for sale if you need.

Rite clothing dye, some vinegar, cool water and your of to the races, mixing your blends as well.

After seeing the prices for some steelhead flies (some around $20 a piece for an intruder style), I won't feel as bad if I lose a couple to fish or snags.
At the end of the day, I don't think we really tie flies to save money. It is more the pleasure of the art form, would you not think.

I really dislike tying extended body flies made from deer hair. Yes, I know they work well and float well, but still are bothersome to tie. So last week after watching a few videos on them I decided to take up an old challenge from a buddy. He asked me to tie him a assortment of flies. Starting with a #16 extended body Adams (jokingly). This was a challenge to me. He got all 300 flies but not a single extended body. This year he will get the new design I came up with and it should be a surprise to him.
Here are a few I have tied so far. They are easy to tie, durable, float very well, versatile in tying techniques. You can tie any traditional pattern on the base body, palmer it, rib it, dub it, use it on Mayflies, Stonefly Adults, Damsel fly adults and nymphs.....etc...

Garhan, how big are these streamers you are throwing? #2 or bigger? I want to try for some bigger fish
Anything from a #4 to a 4/0 with as much as 30 wraps of .031 lead wire.

How'd you tie the extended body? Looks great
I used a rotary vice and a blank #8 streamer hook 3x long with wraffia as the main body. From there you can do almost anything you want to follow traditional patterns or not so traditional patterns.

I have been using a 5wt for dry's and nymphing and a 7 wt for larger streamers and very large heavily weighted nymphs (Stoneflies, etc..). Today's rods are so light anyways it all hardly makes a difference at the end of the day when it comes to casting. But when playing larger fishand casting larger flies a 7 wt is handy with those larger wet streamer patterns. Generally speaking you catch larger fish with larger flies, but not always. . Not like 40+ years ago when we fished the Bow. The 7 will also be more than good enough for most Steelhead, Carp, Bonefish, Peacock bass, Snook and Northern Pike.
But hey I golf with a 3 iron exclusively.

Here are a few we use, in southern Alberta. Double Bunnies work as well and we usually tie them in a 4/0 with a #2 stinger or ready of a stinger. I drop down to a Bunny when the fishing is slow, otherwise we search the water with a 7inch fly.
