  1. Boys, if you're going to PR, take along your float tube (or buy one) and fish Figure Eight Lake until July. You will never regret it.
  2. I have a Clearwater in a 5 weight Mid-Flex 8'6". I can cast into my backing no problem whereas, I cannot do that with other rods. I have fished it since 2003 and will continue to fish it until it dies. You could fish it for hours on end and never get tired with it. I really appreciate mine. If you're looking for a packrod, may I suggest the Finesse series (TFO). I have one in a 3 weight 4-piece 8'9" that I fish the small stuff with. Combo'd with an AirFlo line, it casts like a dream...but I don't get much for distance. But like I said, I only use it for the small stuff and only need to cast short distances. I would highly reccomend the Finesse. Adam.
  3. Hey guys, sorry if this has been posted already...the new Alberta Stream Watch website is up. Looks like they're making headway. http://www.albertastreamwatch.com/ Cheers, A
  4. Nice Shots! The spots on and underneath the mandible on the second cuttie are awesome.
  5. Please remember to report these kills. News release mentions reporting on large numbers of dead fish. Anything over 1 dead fish is worth reporting.
  6. August 3, 2007 Hot fish need help from Alberta anglers Southern Alberta... Hot weather and the lower streamflows of summer are straining some fish at their critical limit. Angler cooperation is requested to avoid adding to the stress levels of these fish. Some streams in the foothills between Rocky Mountain House and the Montana border are experiencing water temperatures as high as 26 C. Trout and mountain whitefish in those streams are particularly hard hit. The Alberta government is receiving reports of dead fish in shallow parts of rivers, reservoirs and lakes in the southern half of the province. Reports vary from a few to several hundred fish of various species in different locations. While high temperatures persist, anglers can assist our fish populations by avoiding fishing in any foothills streams where water temperatures are found to be about 22 C or higher. Carrying a thermometer to check water temperature before you start fishing will be helpful. The public is also asked to advise Fish and Wildlife staff if they see large numbers of dead fish. Please contact any Sustainable Resource Development office with information on numbers of dead fish, species if known, and location. Fish and Wildlife staff will closely monitor the situation to determine when conditions have improved, or if further restrictions are needed. - 30 - Media enquiries may be directed to: Dave Christiansen Fish and Wildlife Division Sustainable Resource Development Rocky Mountain House (403) 845-8269 Travis Ripley Fish and Wildlife Division Sustainable Resource Development Calgary (403) 355-4071 Dave Ealey Communications Sustainable Resource Development Edmonton (780) 427-8636 To call toll-free within Alberta dial 310-0000.

  8. I tied a few big'uns similar to that and the thing that ticked me off was how many strikes and misses I was getting. I realized later that it was crucial to have a stinger attached especially in August and later into the season because the Bulls seem to attack more out of aggresion rather than hunger. A stinger helped land way more than before. My main hook was a 1/0 Mustad stainless steel or 1/0 Siwash and I used a (can't remember the size) Gamakatsu Octopus hook as the stinger. There are a couple of different ways of attaching the stingers. I have photos of different methods if you want, but I'm sure you'll figure it out anyways.
  9. This is exactly what I am trying to get away from. Thanks all! Your help is appreciated.
  10. Hey all, Was wondering if anyone has any good ways of tying in wire to certain flies (Stimmie, Wooly Bugger etc.). Is there a knot required for the wire itself or can you just tie it in as though you're tying in any other material. Thanks, Adam
