  1. Actually they jumped and fought very well. Much closer to a rainbow in their fighting ability, than a brown or brook. Weird...but I was definitely surprised by the fight. They were all very 'healthy'.

never had one jump yet. there stamina is amazing though. they just dont quit.

i like the colors they get in small sk lakes. the fish seem to be very pale when they are caught out of larger lakes or maybe its just me.

that one put up a very memorable battle and if the hall excepts my paper work i should get a certificate and a patch soon for that one.

  2.

this is a picture of a brown from wildhorse lake, which is located in a relentless wind funnel. its very rare for wildhorse lake to be as calm as it was when this photo was taken, especially in april. thats why the stillness of the evening was very eerie, it almost felt like it had to be the calm before the storm, as if we were in the eye of the hurricane.

  3. My fave Bull, Not big, But the colors and patterns were sweet, the Camera shows no justice on the colors/markings...I bet Maxwell has a few pics from the last while???...Max always has some cool pics...

thats one smokin' hot bull you caught bh. the spots are very pronounced on that beauty.

those lake bulls sure have a lot nicer coloration than bulls that live in big silty rivers. its usually the exact opposite scenario with most of the other trouts & chars.

    see for yourselves

    check out these pale piggies.

  4. One of the nicer cutties I have seen. Caught by jksnijders from the board. I just got to hold for the pic. Had lots of color in the cheeks like a rainbow. has anyone else seen or have pics of a cutty with colorful cheeks. Would love to see them. I have caught alot of cutties and this one of kyle's is the only one I have seen with cheeks like this.

here is a picture of one of the brighter cutties i caught this year. the gill plates arent nearly as colorful as the one in your picture though.

nice fish guys, keep the pictures of those big southern alberta trout coming.

  7.

those are sweetest mountain 'bows i have seen in a long time. is there still a lot of 'bows in that lake or are they just incidentals, while fishing for the main attraction, now that the rainbow stocking has been discontinued?

  8. NO!!!!!!!!!! :derby racer:

For the love of ***** **** ******* *** ******** no more non native stockings in parks or anywhere not completely contained!!!!!!!!!! No outlet lakes!!!!!

    *twitch*

    YES!

trefoil lake a few years ago was a prime example of the enormous potential that still exists in these lakes.

no inlet stream for the lake to reproduce on its own.

no outlet stream for any fish to potentially move out of the lake.

the brookies that were relocated to this lake, by the jasper fish fairies, just got huge fast and died of old age. it was the best big brookie lake i have ever fished and spotting huge cruising brookies in +20 feet of crystal clear water in those surroundings was priceless...............

the only thing that got hurt was the population of scuds, chronnies, back swimmers, etc.........

i dont know why the most productive, beautiful, crystal clear lakes in this province have to sit fishless ,for the mistakes that were made in the 1960's.

at least, trefoil wasnt the only barren lake the jasper fish fairies visted. :kicks:

  9. that is awesome monger. i also have a fishing partner in the same situation. it had been a couple years since we made it out fishing together. this year we went out fishing more than we ever have in previous years. including, some trips that in the past we always talked about doing together, like spirit island on maligne lake. he also caught his first cutthroat and personal best rainbow and brookie with me this year. hands down the most fulfilling trips of the year.

  10. We can't hunt in parks, why should we be allowed to fish? I am currently writing a critique and essay on the Jasper plan, about to be released. I can't comment as to the Banff plan, as I haven't seen it, but I would support the removal of non-native species by any feasible means. Parks should act as fish population refugia, not amusement playgrounds.

the elk in the athabasca valley of JNP are also introduced. do you suggest they slaughter the whole herd? or are you a hypocrite like most parkies seem to be?

personally, i dont see why they would even consider these extreme measures.

  11.

i have heard rumblings that a few people in the upper management for the parks are lobbying to remove ALL the fish in the maligne and medicine lake system in the name of ecological integrity. yup, thats right the environmentalists want the whole system returned to its natural state (barren of fish above maligne canyon) rather than have it support a very unique world class fishery as its currently doing.

i thought not stocking those landlocked lakes (edith, christine, first lake in the valley of 5) that used to produce double digit trout regularly was stupid but, what i have been hearing lately is down right scary.

hey neil, who would be a the person/office to contact to express my frustrations with parks fisheries management?
