  1. Come on toolman, can you really blame the guy? Youre working your way downstream, which in the world of trout takes second base, especially when your going to swing into rising fish. Are you sure that he hadn't been stalking these fish and noticed some guy about to walk over rising fish he was working on, so he quickly made his presence known? Both of these imply intent, which very well may not have happened, or likely was not malicious.

I hardly call this low-holing, hell he may have thought you were heading upstream if he had not been watching you and thought he was just fine.

Take it easy, it's the winter and there is a lot less water outthere...

  2. Sink tip when out of a drift boat. Theres more to successful streamer fishing then just hitting the bank and ripping it back, a good angler will manipulate the line to keep it always coming back at certain angles. This requires mending, which is not conducive of a full sink. There's a reason you'll see really good streamer anglers fishing floating lines out of the boat when the conditions call for it. However when you need the depth, a super fast sink tip will do the job better with far greater control than a full sink.

  3. Answer would be B

What is happening is the fish is sucking in something tasting it with their tounge and then spitting it out thus the air bubble is created.\

If I am wrong I would like to know what it really is then.

When did fish get lungs to hold air to 'spit' out bubbles?

They release the air through their gills or mouth after sucking in some from eating from the surface.

  4. Doubt it's a spawned fish still to early IMHO Lots of test reds out there but i don't think they're dropping eggs yet. Nov. to Dec. is prime time.

Went for a walk yesterday and saw 3 pairs spawning, not making test redds.

I was not trying to start anything, but if you're fishing in the city with streamers at this time of the year you are going to run into spawning and spawned out fish. If you do, it's probably a better option to quickly release and not spend any extra time to get a photo, especially since they're really not photo quality fish when they're so skinny.

If you have to fish the city, stay out of any areas with smaller gravel and do not fish tailouts.

Better option, go fish at Police or downstream, the rainbows are getting their feedbag on for winter.

  5. Despite higher water levels with less than perfect visibility, I decided to head out on the bow for 2 hours this afternoon. Within minutes of hitting the banks I spotted a good fish in about 18" of water. It wasn't moving a whole lot and after drifting BWOs, a few nymphs, and swinging some streamers in front of it, I started second guessing myself; maybe this was just a shadow in between the two large rocks? I began getting a little frustrated and decided to wade out to see if this shadow was even a fish - sure enough, three steps in the water and it was gone. That was stupid!

After moving upstream and not seeing a whole lot of other fish, I decided to move back down to see if he had returned after me stupidly spooking it. Lucky for me, he had settled back in between the two rocks. Again, I drifted several nymphs and swung a few streamers but obviously wasn't getting the presentation right. It was a bit of a difficult drift so I decided to toss on a big dry (#8 Green Drake) to drift a dropper (#10 pheasent tail) a little more delicately. After almost half an hour of fighting with the wind and current, I FINALLY got a take as the drake slipped under the water. A few minutes later I had this nice (although rather beat up) 23.5" male brown to hand.

pretty typical behaviour of a fish that color (and location). nicely done

  6. Sooo, the damn BCer can stay at home and fish for $5 a year !! Yeah, that's it! :)

It's like Albertans coming to guide and fish the Elk and feeling "entitled" to a "break" cuz they are from a neighbouring province, right?

The reality being, nobody is "entitled" to anything. Or shouldn't be. :)

It's rather ironic that you're bringing up the Albertans going into BC to guide. How many BC guides come into Alberta to save their rod days when the Elk isn't fishing that great.

  7. Great video Liam.

Your lucky, tried a few times but haven't gotten anything but little snapper out of the Tarpon hole and only cast to 1 Tarpon down there but FTU. Maybe this year, 19 days and counting :)

Might as well be throwing gear if your fishing for tarpon at those depths. The best thing about tarpon are the way they eat the fly and go nuts in 2 feet of water.
