  1. I just picked up my first toon also last weekend, used, but really happy with it also. Its a water skeeter river runner deluxe. The rare earth quick connnect is an awesome idea. Right now I have a down tube mounted with a screw clamp. We fished Lake Newell for pike. The fish finder was great for mapping out the weed lines and spotting fish. I am going to have to find a better mount system for that also, the zip ties just dont do it for me.

Super pumped to float the bow, if it ever turns from choclate mike.

  2. Not to be Captian Obvious here but "dancers" who make that kind of money are doing more then shakin their hips.

I had a rather good looking girl who was a client of mine that did that for 3 years and BOUGHT A HOUSE... cash. yes. cash. I guess loonies add up. Hell if I was good looking and female I'd consider it... LOL... unfortunately I fit neither of those categories :D

  3. So here's the skinny. I want to take advantage of the weather this weekend, I have a 15month old little girl another one on the way in just 6 weeks.

I just picked up a new tent trailer and want to go camping this weekend. Any suggestions, ~1 - 2hour radius from Calgary, flishing close by so I can sneek out in the morning before anyone is up, trailer and kid friendly....

Not looking for your honey hole.

  4. Thats my point, it may not land me on the cover of national geographic for quality, but I had to share with the board that for 200 bones, you can get a drop proof, underwater, wide angle, HD movie shootin camera.

Great price, nat bad video quality, and a pretty idiot proof point and shoot for what I need.

  5. Save your gas money. I was seriously interested in the Frabil net, so much that I went to BassPro last night @ 9:30 to get one. After looking at it, its a $32 net ($22 is the americial price on line) with a clear rubber net tied to it. The net was heavy, and the mesh will break unless you modify with more rope to stop the "dental floss" that they have keeping the rubber mesh on from ripping tru the rubber. So its a $30 net, you get what you pay for. It is not a ghost net, and I personally am of the opinion to buy good gear, enjoy if forever, or buy cheep stuff, never be happy with it and have to replace it when it fails.

Just my personal opinion after inspecting the net yesterday.

  6. Just my personal opinion, but when I casted the G-loomis I didn't like the mid to lower flex point, felt like a wet noodle to me. I like a medium to fast action mid top flex rod. I was in the same boat as you for rod budget. The z-axis is a nice rod, but you will not get it for 400 - 500 bucks. What I found was there was a marked difference between a $200 rod and a $400 rod. THat goes with out saying. But the differences between a $400 rod and a $800 rod were not as dramatic. I ended up going with a 5wt Sage flight lined with SA GPX line. It comes with ots own 4 peice case that has room to leave your reel on.

I personally really like it, compact, delicate on the southern Ab creeks, 4 piece so makes a good pack rod, can throw moderatly weighted streamers, and nymphs well on the bow. Try it out.

  7. I got into a 19" (taped) white fish on the weekend, down in teh Fish Creek area. Big fat whitty, thick really healthy, but kinda like a log to to retrive. After reading the post I did some digging on the net. Apparently White's spawn in the winter...this one was caught on a # 18 red lightening midge emerger.

"The spawning season is from October to early December, when water temperatures are 2-6 °C. The fish seek out areas of coarse gravels or cobbles at depths of at least 75 cm, and scatter the non-adhesive eggs so that they sink into the interstices. The eggs then develop slowly through the winter (6-10 weeks), hatching in the early spring." Source : Wikipedia "Mountian Whitefish"

  8. Short and sweet, it is preferred you have a snk tip to get that fly down deep. If fishing a pool get deep and strip fast quick 2" jurks while retreving.

if fishhing a seam or run cast across the seam let the current do the work and hold at the bottom of the drift then retrive. Micro leaches, wolley buggers and clouser minnows are your friends.

Have fun. I love streamer fishing great for those slow hatch times and for targeting the big fish, but in my honnest opinion nymphing is king of the river.

  9. Back east they have fly fishing olny rules n place, maybe it is because they are salmon rivers, maybe the east cost realize fly fishermen are mostly catch and ralease and it takes all of the guessing work out of it. I think the bull trout spawning grounds should be no fishing or fly fish only.

Everything asde alot of spinning gear guys I have fishid next to on the bow and western streams eventually show me their rig and its illegal. From barbed hooks to bait....
