  1. Quick question about what SJW said about leader/tippet weight. I have always stuck with 4x leder/tippet for nymphing. SHould I be using a heavier tippet? Will the fish be more likely to see you tippet if its much bigger than 4x? So far for me it seems that I am not losing many fish with 4x but if I can go heavier without the fish noticing it seems to be a good idea.

    Thanks,

  2. Thanks again for the feedback. However, I called the shop this morning to order the cloudveil's and my size (large) sold out yesterday however if any of you are looking for other sizes and are interested check out http://shop.westbank.com/ . They also have some others on sale such as last years Simms G3 and guide waders for 25% off. You need to call the shop to order as their online store doesn't allow shipping to canada but the shop will for around $14-20. In the end I elected to go with Courtney from Nile Creek Fly shop and get the Snowbee xs-pro waders. Courtney's a great guy to chat with and is shipping them out today. I will keep you all posted on the Snowbee's.

  3. Hey All,

I have been using the fishpond vest all last season. I bought a 2L bladder from mec and it works awesome. Rarely do I fill it up entirely as a full bladder becomes bulky especially when you need to throw other stuff in the back of the vest. Before I used the bladder i found I always didn't drink enough water and by the end of the day i was dehydrated and had a head ache. Now that I have the hydration stuff down I need to find a solution to forgetting to put sun screen on!

  4. Coming from a guy who tangles lots I have been tought one thing...if you tangle always tell yourself first "its never as bad as it looks". This seems to make taking the tangle out easy. Otherwise I get frustrated and this leads to more tangles. Good luck, you may see me on the river sometime...I'm the one talking to myself while taking the tangle out!

  5. Hey,

Just a quick note. Fished the crow today and it was tough fishin to say the least. The water is up a bit but only had about 16" visability at best and 8" at worst. I was there 2 weeks ago and the fishing was amazing but today only had 1 to hand and a few others on the line. All fish were close to shore. I was using hairs ear and pheasant tail and bouncing it off the bottom. Found some really big golden stones under the rocks but fish were not taking. I should also note I am no expert on the crow (or elsewhere) as I have only been there twice...so take my advice with a grain of salt! Good Luck

  6. 9'0 5 weight TFO Axiom.

I second birchy. I just bought this rod and it is has been awesome for me. However, it is great for the Bow but might be a little stiff (fast action) for some smaller water. Lots of reviews on this rod say its comparable to rods that you will pay $200-$400 more for. Plus its TFO which means the warranty is kick ass, especially if you will be around Calgary (take a busted rod straight to the factory and get a replacement peiece immeidately). Try it out and see if its for you.

  7. Just bought the 5wt TFO Axiom yesterday. Spent the day on the bow with it and loved it. Its a fast action rod which forces me to work on my technique. By the end of the day I was casting a good 20 feet of line more then with my old cheap TFO...that doesn't probably say much about my casting! The rod responds unbelievably to doube hauling and shoots line really fast. Bought it at Russell Sports...10% off all rods right now!

To make it even sweater I had the best day i have ever had on the bow...9 fish - 7 to hand - 5 over 20" - biggest was a gorgous 22" brown. I thought no one that has fished with me would believe it so I have pics of a 4 of the fish over 20". I'll try posting when I get my pics loaded.

  8. I fished a few of the flies from Icky last year and they were comparable to the ones I usually buy for tripple the cost. One of the guys I fish with also uses them and seems to have great luck with them on all waters. I am about to restock my box for the season and wouldn't consider anything but icky...good selection, great price, quick delivery.
