Apparently according to the news report, there countless numbers of dead lake whitefish washed up on shore from lack of oxygen in the water due to the hot weather. This is out at Rattlesnake Res about 25 km out of the city and it isn't exactly a small body of water either. Apparently it's getting rather smelly. I have lived here all my life and don't recall anything like this happening before but here in Med. Hat daytime highs have been between 35 and 39 degrees days on end. It doesn't seem to cool very much at nite either. My thermometer says 40 in the shade right now and it's 6 PM in the evening. Sure happy I have air cond. I haven't heard any Bullshead reports (maybe some of you have) but I have stayed away from there since this weather hit. I hope the fish survive out there but what are the chances in this heat and a shallow lake?

What you do in a situation like that is take your 9 ft. graphite fly rod and stick it into the ground so it's straight up and then lay beside it. That way it hits your rod and not you and puts the charge into the ground. Kind of like standing under a tree. Let me know how it works if you ever are in that situation again. I don't want to be the first to try it. :D Disclaimer::: Results may vary so don't take me seriously

I know what you mean. If we would have known then what we know now. I was the owner of a Dan Armstrong Ampeg with a clear plexi-glass body. It came with wooden bridge and 2 pickups that you slid in and out of the body to change the sound. There were only made in 1967-68 I believe. Saw one in a magazine a while back and they have become a collectors item although it didn't state the value

Not too much information Griz. It something that every buyer should know and if you don't know what to look for in a guitar, take someone with you that does know when your out shopping for one. My brother in law bought one with buzz on the higher frets but only on the bottom strings. When I sighted the neck, you could see a definite twist in it. Being a newbie he didn't know to check for twist and warpage. However, the store did let him exchange it. So Brian, if you go shopping take a knowlegable person with you if you know someone. Even a low end guitar should not be a dog to play. It should feel right.

Is there a substitute for peacock angel hair? I don't have any of that.

I had the same thing happen to me. Somewhere there is a pair of magnetic clip ons out at BH. All of a sudden realized they weren't on my face. I retraced my steps several times but no luck.

My downfall is that I am a totally self taught player but I managed to do alright. Played in several bands over the years until it got to be too much. ( Cut into my fishing time) Then my guitars went into the closet also until my daughter took my acoustic. Well, I kinda gave it to her. I'm getting the itch to play again but for my entertainment purposes only. I'm even thinking about formal lessons. Better late than never. It would keep my busy over the winter. I mean you can only tie so many flies. There should be alot of websites that have tips and tricks also. Off to Bullshead today

You're right about that Toolman. I plan on making a day of it trying out a lot of different ones. I guess a guitar is like a fly rod. It has to feel just right. Apparently the brand name "garrison" is getting good reviews for the price. Made in Newfoundland. I will have to try one out.

This may a little off topic but a question for all you guitar players. I'm going to be in the market for an acoustic guitar. My daughter took my old one so that gives me an excuse to buy a new one. Which store in Calgary has the biggest selection new or used? Living in Medicine Hat, my choices are limited. I have a choice of Fender and Takamine or Takamine and Fender and I'm not stuck on either one.

Goldeye fishing is a good time use your not so good or flies you know you would never use otherwise. If you can find a goldeye hotspot, anything works as Bloom and I found out a couple of summers ago.

Weedy. That's really stinks. Too bad you didn't keep fire, theft and vandalism on it. The extra insurance cost is very little but whats done is done. These yahoos are getting braver all the time. A co-worker of mine had his van stolen out of the staff parking lot in mid day while he was inside the building working. They found it in Calgary. It wasn't the van he cared about but rather what was inside it. Luckily he recovered it all.

I'm thinking go to an auto parts store and get a chunk of small diameter black rubber windshield washer hose. It would most likely give you better grip than the original.

Does anyone have a favorite caddis emerger pattern they would like to provide a recipe, photo or link to? For lake patterns I have been using the usual scuds, leeches, chironomids etc. When I was out at BH the caddis hatch was on. These fish were sipping on the surface and I'm sure they were taking the emergers. I tried to see what was on the surface (shuck)before they hatched and flew away but it seems they just appeared and I couldn't tell what they looked like. How would one present this fly on a lake? Still or with movement? What would be your methods and go to fly on a lake caddis hatch? Any advise? Thanks.

I heard it's about 70 % full of water so it will be a couple years before it's any decent. Another lake that the fish don't get a chance to grow. The bonkers have to keep their limit of 8" fish. This lake goes in cycles. Decent size (maybe 15" give or take) one year until they are cleaned out then small ones again the next year.

Heard about it this morning. Too bad.
