  1. If i recall right, you got the jet in 2010 or so. Feel free to tell me if I'm wrong, but I recall you above deerfoot during the stonefly times in 2011-2012....

The city limit included Deerfoot by 2007. Feel free to look at the municipal maps here:

    https://data.calgary.ca/OpenData/Pages/DatasetListingAlphabetical.aspx

So glad to hear you were breaking the law. original.jpg

    Wrong ,

As I was asked and even chatted with fish & wildlife at the time , just to make 100% sure , no fine or tickets as the river was marked as city limits for that time way above the Deerfoot bridge , about 2 miles up and it was also not a straight line across the river for the mark , it was very close to the pump house ,

And if it was out of limits would of been allot of jets and green Jon boats getting ticketed or fine ,

  2. Yes , I guess I got a bad attitude , shame on me for following the rules , I'v never taken a jet boat up into the city limit , the city limits was not the Deerfoot bridge , the city limits was above that

Those who think that jet boats shouldn't be above MacKinnons , they have a special interest in it , and if that happens , them same people would next would be saying no jet boats above carsland ,

  3. A visit from the RCMP , so what , that don't mean anything , did he get fined , I bet not , maybe a talking to , it's a city thing ,

I was at the boat launch at policemans when the owner of the big huge yellow jet boat that was way up in the city section came off and the Same thing , RCMP just had a chat with him , no ticket or fine as he was then out of city limits

As for me , I'v had my jet boat above the Deerfoot bridge before , befor it was in the city section , used to be near the pump house if I can remember as the cut off line for city section , I think it now the Deerfoot bridge or maybe it's still way above that

  4. Sounds like a little education is needed here.

You can't use a jet boat in the City and remember the City of Calgary recently expanded down the left side of the river beyond Policeman's flats.

This may well mean your nearest access on the Bow is MacKinnons

Fine is cheep , bylaw ticket , when was the last time you seen a bylaw officer in a sled on the river , if one was waving for you to come to shore , I'm sure some flip them the bird ,

Last time I seen a jet boat up in the city section , he took out at policemans and it was out of city limits , RCMP didn't want anything to do with it

  5. I tried it , made a lil money , I had 3 boats at one time , 2 drift boats and a power drifter for myself

I only rented to guys who at least had rowed a boat , and I'd let the guys who guided for me rent it for a deal if they didn't own a boat $100

Are you going to get rich , NO , can *hit go wrong , YES , you should be able to get $200 for a nice Hyde , split it 3 ways and the guys happy, you might get it rent out 15 times a year , over 5 years it's paid for itself ,

Just be picky who you rent it to ,make sure the guy on the oars kinda knows what he's doing , and still *hit can happen fast , I remember pulling the odd guide from a well known fly shop up river into policemans after they missed the takeout ,

You float long enough , things will happen to ya

    Thanks,

    Jared

That is rotten bad luck , sorry Jared , and I bet you do feel like *hit ,

You guys just be careful and think on the plan of getting it out ,

Safety first , no drift boat is worth the risk of a life ,

If I had my tomcat I'd come pull it to shore for you

  7. Jet boat listed in this article...maybe?

    http://bigwestcountry.ca/2015/06/rcmp-searching-for-wanted-male/

I could only hope , I got a message today from a friend about these pricks , I'm waiting on a call back from the local RCMP ,

They sure have been catching lots of thiefs lately ,

one fellow in Edmonton had like $800,000 worth ,

a group of 4 in Calgary I think a couple weeks ago with over a million worth of stolen cars, trucks, bikes, boats and RV's

And now these guys today ,

the fly shop in BC that had the jet boat stolen , they found it I heard , in a garage all hacked up ,

    It's really getting bad ,

I have a baseball bat and a can of bears spray just waiting for the phone call , I sure hope I find them befor the Mounties do ,

  8. Thanks Doc

So far it has not showed up , I had it stored at Dave s place in dewinton , he used to own the south bow fly shop , I had it locked up tight and even a extra ball hitch lock on it , they took a grinder to it ,

I got the call Saturday morning from Dave while in Campbell River BC , on my way home from the Baja for the winter , I was leaving in a week to do some Steelheading in the Skeena country ,

screwed My plans a bit ,

Dave feels shitty but not his fault ,

The boat will show up ,maybe in a few years , I have everyone in the country looking for it , the insurance adjuster told me , in his job after 15 years , the boat is most likely down in the USA , it will show up someday

From now on as I had a truck stolen a few years ago , everything I own for toys will get a GPS chip hidden in it ,

And God help them pricks if I find out who befor the RCMP do

  9. From your post , dry fly rod , but as you stated you might also use it for light nymphing ,

If I had to pick just one rod in 5 wt for the bow , it would be a 9 ft ,

I think a person is limiting himself to just one rod , nothing wrong with trying to pick up a few extra ones ,

My choices in rods to fish the bow ,

Streamer rod in a strong 6 wt , if you like casting double streamers then a 7 wt

Nymphing stick in 10 ft & 5 wt

Dry fly rod would still be a 8 to 9 ft bamboo in a 4 or 5 wt for light drys and even lighter tippets

And if you like swinging with a two handed rod , a nice switch or light trout spey rod in a 4/5 wt

  10. I don't see anything wrong with otters , they got to eat also , even on the bow I've watched mink catch and eat fish , what's wrong with that

Now if you own a trout pond and it was stocked with your own fish , then I could see some old fart having the right to bitch ,

The otter has as much right to catch fish as you do Don , just he likes to eat his catch ,

  11. Simms G4 zipper is a great pair of waders , when you pay that kind of money , you will get a great warranty , ask those who have Simms , they stand behind what they sell , I find them perfect in early spring or when I'm steelheading in the fall , they don't leak at the zipper and again if you have any troubles , send them in , you'll get them fixed or a new set mailed to you

I myself started wearing the pants waders from Simms a few years ago , I like them also allot , when it's warm out they sure are cooler then full up waders

You can't go wrong , might cost you a bit more , but your getting the best waders on the market , toughest and back by the best warranty

  12. jay

I understand what your trying to get across as your question , them big red band bucks or tomatoes , some even call them red fire trucks , heck I've caught em , I used to think they were so nice to look at , don't get me wrong any steelhead is nice , but you move on to trying to catch the better fighting fish , so that means fresher ones from the ocean , some of the nicest steelhead I've seen have been from the lower dean , as they been caught just a mile or so from the ocean , I'm going to fish that piece of water in the next year or two , it's on my bucket list to do

I think most steelhead come into the fresh water months befor they spawn , you can catch them well before they sitting on redds , like Pkk stated , the rivers are closed when they are anywhere near spawning

These days I now like my steelhead speyed and bright like the bumper on my pickup truck , chromed , this one I got in the picture even had a few sea lice , you know they fresh when you can see your fingers through the fins , plus the fight is that much better ,
