rhett ties for a few shops in town
Just wanted to follow up.
Placed a large order with Rhett. The flies look AMAZING. Can't wait to try them out, I will report back how they hold up. I am very impressed. Thanks for the heads up UBER.

How about a update on Fish Creek? Open yet, or very near..
Talked to Mel at bow river shuttles. Fish Creek is open.

That's horrible....where were they? Any sort of description of them? I will keep an eye out.

Going to be putting in an order with Rocky Mountain Flies.
Anyone care to suggest their favourites for the Bow? I have a few, but I am always interested to hear what other people are using. I don't have time to try them all myself! Sure wish I did though

I had a bunch of drunk and disorderlies tied at bow river troutfitters by one of the young fellas there. They were very well done. Prices were good too.
Anyone care to share some contact info? Would be much appreciated!

Hi Guys,
I order a lot of my dries and nymphs online from Icky, but they lack a bit in the streamer category.
Anyone have any positive online experiences from other companies that might have a better selection of large/articulating streamers?
TY

One could argue that At least a golf course serves a purpose.
People are just so thoughtless and lazy. How many times have you seen someone watering their lawn a day after a downpour? Or watering their lawn a few times a week in the shoulder seasons. Or forgetting their sprinkler is on and letting it go for hours? How about water running down their driveway/sidewalk? (which is actually a bylaw issue.)
Another favourite is the the lawn cool down. Watering at the hottest part of the day.
Through the last two seasons where reservoirs were low and high water temps/ low flows persisted, Calgarians could soak their lawns at will—even as okotoks etc banned outdoor water use.
I bitched to my dad about his watering habits once. His honest response was “waste water? What? It’ll just evaporate, make a cloud and rain.”
I really wonder how many people understand how water waste works.
Fees for water should really run as. supply/demand marketplace. If we’re in a drought, you can have it, but you sure are going to pay for it.
Im scared of how grumpy I’m going to be as an old man. Ha
Hahaha....I feel the same way!

Although the deal with Newstrike (HIP) and Cannimed is done for now, might be an interesting purchase, as someone will probably snap them up. Decent Share price at 1.82 currently. Might be a double or triple if/and when they get bought out.
Can you explain to me why Aurora is down today and Cannimed is through the roof?? That just doesnt make sense to me!

Dang, I will be out of town that week.

Just wondering if anyone has been to Iceland to fly-fish? I am considering a trip but wondering how it compares to New Zealand.
If anyone has been there and has a referral for a guide that would be great!

So they're eating streamers?
Hold on...brb...heading to the store to load up on clousers.

Just an update....the gentleman had 3 rainbows on him and a bucket of minnows.
-
Might this not explain the 2 rods? Like many here, I'm just jumping to my own conclusion.
When we saw him he was by himself, I was surprised to hear about the wife myself.
-
Just to be clear - he had 2 rods going with both lines in the water? That's one of the violations in the story right?
I usually carry two rods around (one streamer, one dryfly), but am only ever casting one. That's fine correct?
You got it!

It doesn't help when some places are selling a license, and do not have regulations. I know they are also on the net, but many do not, or don't wwant to print them out.
Agreed....IMO they should have a "quick sheet" of the regs of the bodies of water around Calgary if the angler says they are going in and around the city!

Likely a written warning for bait fishing and a fine for each retained fish unless he had a previous fisheries violation.
He had a fishing license as I saw him hand it too the CO. The CO filmed him before making his appearance. Then they all headed back to the parking lot to do the paperwork.
Well thanks for the info. Hopefully the lesson has been learned.

Yes they got him and his wife. I watched the bust from across the river.
Most of the "poaching" is usually just people who don't know any better and come from a culture of eating their catch. For the majority of anglers in the world, catch and release is a bizarre concept. I try and have a friendly talk with people I see fishing with bait or attempting to keep fish and educate them to the reasons behind the C&R laws. If they get hostile or continue fishing, I call it in. I've handed out plenty of SJW's, leeches and bobbers over the years.
Yes I agree....a lot of it does boil down to education, and it's too bad that the example has to be learned the hard way sometimes. I commend you for helping people learn!!
Still, ignorance is not an excuse. What kind of punishment would they face?

Early Saturday morning I floated from Glenmore to Fish Creek. About 1 km upstream of the Fish Creek launch I saw a guy fishing from shore with what looked to be 2 rods. Sure enough as we go closer my fishing partners and I confirmed he was. A few more seconds go by and sure as *hit this guy reels one in. Looked to be about a 20-22" brown. He drags it right up onto the rocks. While its still on the end of the hook he drops it numerous times on the rocks. He finally gets a hold of it and blood is everywhere. He gets the hook out (also looked like he was fishing with bait) and takes a lonngggggggg look at us before throwing it on the rocks beside his bag. He then proceeds to continue fishing like nothing happened...and like nobody saw him.
We immediately get on the horn and call R-A-P. The fish and game officer calls us back a few minutes later asking for more details and says he's on route, but we didn't hear anything back after that. Does anyone know if they normally call you back after the fact? I am just gutted by what I saw....I honestly cant stop thinking about it. Took everything we had not to take the law into our own hands. I was, and still am furious. I really want to know if they got him or not.

Mostly the spotting pattern. Cutties have heavy spots near the front and then become sparse toward the tail.
Slash under the jaw, rosy pink sides (rather than belly), and to a lesser degree, its length. cuttys are mostly short and fat.
The other hint is the hot fight it probably put up. I find that Any "cutty" I hook that is surprisingly hot (or a surprisingly voracious eater) tends to be a cuttbow.
I should have been more specific...at what point is it a cutty, a cuttbow, or a full rainbow? Where do you draw the line? In any case, fun as hell
-
Definitely a cuttbow.
How can you guys tell? I caught a nice cut bow last year that was much more rainbowish. Either way, I will take what I can get haha

Counter Balanced Oars
in General Chat - Fishing Related

Hi All,
I am looking to treat myself to some counter balanced oars, but just want to make sure they are the right choice.
Has anyone had a bad experience with counter balanced oars? Or does anyone prefer if they are not counter balanced?
Also, I am looking at the Cataract SGG oars. Anyone own these? If not, what are some other recommendations?
I have a 16' Clacka LP.
Thanks everyone!
