Guest Sundancefisher
I am thinking of picking up a pump to help with flooding a rink. Anyone have any experience with these sorts of beasts? Any recommendations or concerns? Thanks. Sun
Brownstone
Costco carries honda knock-offs made by Champion Power Equipment thay are cheap and work well, I wouldn't recommend them for long term use but would be great for making rinks. I believe they are under 200.
dube
You will pay for it but when it comes to small engines I would never buy anything other than a Honda. Change oil when it gets dirty, new filter and plug every year and it will never let you down. Yes this is my shameless promotion for Honda, I have a compressor, generator and lawn mower all with Honda motors in varying HP and cannot say enough good things about them. On the other hand if you are only planning to use it a few times it may not be worth the extra cash or you could try to pick one up used which would cut the cost and would be excellent for what you need it for. my 2 cents
Ricinus
I think my main concern would be icing and freezing up. I have never used one in the winter so I am not sure how it would work. Regards Mike
Brownstone
cover it in with plywood or something to keep it warm and to avoid it sucking in really cold air, If the crankcase vent into the air filter is on an upward slope it will fill with condensation and freeze. Ive ran lots of gas generators in the winter and this is the #1 killer also make sure your fuel is clean, add a drop of gas line antifreeze and your good to 40 below.
