onthefly7 Posted June 27, 2008 Posted June 27, 2008 My dad lives in Calgary, and I'm coming to visit him July 7-21. I am not that good at fly fishing but I would like to catch a few new species while I'm up there. Where are a few good places for novices like myself and my father to get into some good fish. I have been thinking to hit up wedge pond because catching a grayling would be awesome to me. But I also have been wanting to catch my first pike, or bull trout. I am not asking to give away your favorite spots, just for you to tell me what new fish give me the biggest chance of hooking up? Quote
Guest bigbadbrent Posted June 27, 2008 Posted June 27, 2008 piking will be tough, just due to how hot it will be bulls, go to a stream on the mountains, toss big streamers, you should be finding one or two bear pond for grayling is easier then wedge, but it helps to have a tube Quote
gustuphson Posted June 28, 2008 Posted June 28, 2008 Maybe check Quarry Pond for the Grayling, it's by the Nordic Centre in Canmore. If you don't get any fish there's usually lots of bikini's around. For pike, if you aren't targeting trophies, you might get one from the Elbow in town or try at Glenmore Reservoir. As far as the Bull Trout goes head out to pretty much any Eastern Slope stream.
