Weedy1
This is a real interesting concept. I can't even imagine what the shock to the electrical system will be when everyone turns their power back on at 9pm. From an electrical point of view this is a real stupid idea. From an environmental point of view a very good one.
dryfly
The irony-- or eco stoopidity.. The weather channel Earth Hour website says: On March 29, 2008, from 8 – 9pm local time, people and businesses are asked to turn off all lights and other non-essential electric appliances to bring attention to promote electricity conservation, awareness and lower carbon emissions. But the idiots want us to watch Earth Hour on TV? Classic eco double talk! Bloody lunacy. Saturday March 29, watch live coverage of Earth Hour on The Weather Network, 7-9PM EDT! birchy
Article in the "Metro" newspaper today.. Enmax says that during earth hour the power consumption spiked 6% HIGHER than normal. Columnist is saying "the battle of Alberta" and "colder than average temperatures" are most likely to blame. So much for that idea... *edit* Found a Calgary Herald article: http://www.canada.com/calgaryherald/news/s...5c-913213ba229a
fishfreak
What we learned from Earth hour in Calgary: we love the environment, but we love to stay warm and watch hockey more.
admin
Enmax says that during earth hour the power consumption spiked 6% HIGHER than normal. It dipped here about 9% and about 10% in PEI. I guess it really depends on the stats you look at.
