I think it would be better if the parachute was back farther. Have you ever tried making the parachute posts from the butts of a hair wing? Doing this helps make it less crowded in the front end; of course you'd need to thin the butts for a smaller dia. post.

ya i think you're right. I like using the hi-vis para post yarn, as well..its high vis haha....all my hoppers are used more for indicators, so not too shabby.

 

Got lots of time before these will be leaving the box, lots of time to give that one away and tie a better one for myself ;)

I mentioned the hair post because there is a very effective caddis parachute pattern that incorporates the wing butts for the post.

looks like a pretty sweet fly to me. if it were me, i'd also cut down on the hackle wraps as you have more than enough floatation going on in the back half of the fly. it's just because i'm ultra-cheap too.

 

still, that thing'll float like a battle ship! nice tie! change the colour underneath for an adult stone too!
