cdock Posted September 28, 2007 Posted September 28, 2007 I'm thinking of building myself a rod for a bit more enhancement of this sport. Any suggestions where to start? Books? Videos? Quote
Flytyer Posted September 28, 2007 Posted September 28, 2007 I think Fish Tales has a seminar on rod building or at least they did in the past. Quote
flyangler Posted September 28, 2007 Posted September 28, 2007 I am learning from a friend who has all the toys. My investment has been only in time, labor and materials. I can't recommend books or tapes, although for me, I guess tapes would be more helpful. I have learned that I don't really love it, so I'm glad I didn't buy all the tools and machinery to turn and grind and shape and so on. The cork handle I made is of beautiful colors and fits my hand perfectly. That alone would cost you a bundle if somebody else did it for you. Quote
Stimmy Posted September 29, 2007 Posted September 29, 2007 cdock, I have a copy of "Rod -Building Guide" by Tom Kirkman that you are welcome to borrow. It will give you a good idea of what is involved. Another good resource is http://www.rodbuildingforum.com/, tonnes of info, and experienced rod builders on that board. You can build a great rod without buying all the tools, and gadgets. PM me if what the book. Duncan Quote
