Guest bigbadbrent Posted September 28, 2007 Posted September 28, 2007 I normally only use black beadheads for Brent bugs, as the entire fly is black, might as well make the bead as well.. Would this be detrimental if i wanted to tie evils with them, as the gold or silver gives it that extra touch of flash that black just doesnt do. Thanks Quote
scotfly Posted September 28, 2007 Posted September 28, 2007 I don't know about the fishing pressure over there, but on this small isle it is common to find the fish becoming wary of flies with gold beads on them. So often black is the way to go. Quote
Flytyer Posted September 28, 2007 Posted September 28, 2007 Why not try some coloured glass beads in larger sizes, opens new colour combos. Quote
dryfly Posted September 30, 2007 Posted September 30, 2007 From an old post. Net spinning caddis larva The black (lead) beads serve three purposes: 1) get the larvae to the bottom 2) look like the thorax/head, and 3) as Scotfly noted, maybe some o four fish have seem brass beads too often. Quote
