Guest JayVee Posted April 10, 2011 Posted April 10, 2011 Is there a type or brand that's best for palmering? I've been trying my hand at some Kelly Galloup streamers and you need the thin stemmed quills. The stuff I have here is gnarly and thick. There are a few good feathers but they're scarce to say the least. What do you guys use for palmering? Quote
headscan Posted April 10, 2011 Posted April 10, 2011 I've always found the marabou blood quills work best for palmering. Quote
Guest 420FLYFISHIN Posted April 10, 2011 Posted April 10, 2011 X2, the blood quills USUALLY have thinner stems on them and easier to palm. Quote
Wolfie Posted April 11, 2011 Posted April 11, 2011 strip one side of the feather, leaving the shinning side facing the eye of the hook when palmered..saves fighting with them.. Quote
ironfly Posted April 11, 2011 Posted April 11, 2011 Superfly has a product called "Spey Popsicle Marabou" which is specifically selected for palmering. Quote

What do you guys use for palmering? even with all the different brands/types out there you will still have to dig through the pack and find the extra-thin quills for these kind of streamers.... "materials are not created equal" inspect the marabou before purchasing..flyshops love and encourage this kind of behavior dido on the blood quills seem to be the best overall. Quote
