NormanMcLean Posted September 3, 2007 Posted September 3, 2007 I just got back from a weekend fishing the South Ram, and had 2 very different outings. The region experienced heavy rain on Friday night/ Saturday morning but had cleared up by Saturday afternoon. The water was now a bit higher and faster than usual, but still crystal clear. The problem was I couldn't find the cuts to 18" in the same spots as last week. No rises to speak of. I assumed the fish were weary of the faster flowing top water and had hunkered down. So I tried nymphing but without success. I forgot my streamer box in the truck, and wish I had brought it. Sunday was much better as the water slowed down on the surface. Any ideas on how to fish water right after a heavy rainfall? Quote
DutchDryfly Posted September 3, 2007 Posted September 3, 2007 After heavy rainfall and most of the time coloring of the stream, you will find the trout near the banks. I have had some good experience with big dries (size 6 or 8), or using the CZ nymphing. Quote
Hawgstoppah Posted September 8, 2007 Posted September 8, 2007 Sometimes the temp drop associated with the rain just simply puts 'em down for a day or two... nothing you can do. Quote
maxwell Posted September 9, 2007 Posted September 9, 2007 when this happens on the cutty streams i fish. i go too the early/late season water...semi winter water...if u get my drift...there metabolism drops and they dont feed much i use lots of weight and tiny midges and mayflies czech nymph style or indicatorin...jauns slay em too after the rain sometimes Quote
