Madpiper Posted April 24, 2010 Posted April 24, 2010 Looking at adding another line for my Deer Creek 5/6 Spey (currently using a Delta Spey). Indicator nymping and streamers on the Bow. I currently have a scandi on my switch rod and really like its versatility; is a skagit line too much for Bow river fishing? How usefull is it at nymping or is it a better streamer line? Thanks, Quote
cheeler Posted April 24, 2010 Posted April 24, 2010 I use both a scandi (about 390 grains) and skagit (425 grains) for that rod. The length of Delta is good for mending and probably the better line out of all three for indicator nymphing. The scandi can handle most poly leaders for small streamers and swinging nymphs and large dries, but I find it doesn't handle the larger streamers very well. You won't want to use the skagit lines for nymphing - too short and too thick to mend. Another option would be to cut the tip off the delta and use it as a multi tip line with poly leaders. Quote
headscan Posted April 25, 2010 Posted April 25, 2010 A skagit head with a couple different sink tips are fantastic for swinging streamers on the Bow. I find the 15' Rio type 3 and type 6 tips will cover most situations around here. Quote
