Heimdallr Posted April 12, 2010 Posted April 12, 2010 I've been looking to upgrade my fly reels and I've been looking at tons of brands weighing my options, looking for deals etc. and I stumbled upon Marryat reels and was wondering if anyone has any experience with them. They are made in Switzerland, look pretty nice, and are fully machined. Any info would be useful. Thanks Quote
jack Posted April 13, 2010 Posted April 13, 2010 Had a couple in the past. They are very well-built and have a typically "Swiss-made precision movement". And the "precision" is their downside. I found that any intrusion of foreign water-born matter(minute amount of silt, for example) would gum the works and I'd end up de-watering and cleaning just to keep it working. My thoughts at the time were "Do I really want something this finicky?". Just looked at the newer large arbor schematic, the guts look the same as the ones I had. j Quote
Ricinus Posted April 13, 2010 Posted April 13, 2010 I've heard they are like Jack said- well made but high maintenance. Never own one so this is others opinion. regards Mike Quote
Heimdallr Posted April 13, 2010 Author Posted April 13, 2010 Definitely not what I'm looking for then. I'm all for taking care of my gear, but I'd definitely get frustrated if I had to rinse out my reel constantly while fishing. Thanks for the info guys, you've been very helpful. Quote
