  1. sirocco, I've found that just glueing them on doesn't work very well. They always fall off (at least for me) with whichever glue I used. So now I glue them on with Loctite or Zap-a-gap. I let them dry for a couple days (probably not necessary, but this is what I do). Then I cover the whole eye with 5 minute epoxy making sure to get the epoxy in the gap between the doll eye and dumbbell edge. I've also tried a Loon product called Hard Head, which seems to work well, but I haven't put the flies to the torture test yet. Michael
  2. sirocco, I've always heard that the Bastard Adams is tied with calf tail for the wing, and moose or elk hair for the tail. So the pattern would be: hook: dry fly 10-20 thread: 8/0 black (or grey) wing: calf tail, divided tail: moose hair body: grey dubbing hackle: one grizzly, one brown The effectiveness of this fly derives from the visibility of the calf tail in comparison with the less visible grizzly hackle tip wings. But you can substitute anything that is handy. I am partial to white macrame yarn in place of the calf tail. Good luck, Michael
  3. But there are some really good photos in the book. Michael
