It was Mid July ... my daughter was working at The Calgary Stampede, I struggled through the downtown traffic to drop her off at the gates to Stampede Park. After a quick goodbye and arrangement for a 7:00 PM pick-up that would end up stretching to a 10:00 PM pick-up because well her dad would find himself still over 2 hours away on the side of a trouty stream surrounded by a band of beautiful Alberta Wild Horses when that 7:00 pick-up time came and went ... luckily River was more than willing to wait it out with her work friends at the rides and midway games of the Stampede while her fly fishing father bounced his way out of the Eastern slopes and through the foothills and back to the city and the gates of the greatest outdoor show on earth 3 hours late ... but in my defense the last hour of that was spent battling traffic and cowboys and cowgirls in the final 3 blocks of the journey ... all in all it was a heck of a day. While River spent the morning and afternoon working away in the hot sun down at the grounds I was out exploring a few streams and meeting a cutthroat and a couple nice browns not to mention all those beautiful wildies out there in ... ALBERTA TROUT HEAVEN ... sit back and enjoy the show and don't forget to engage by commenting, liking and subscribing

It was a warm early August day, I hit the road and headed West. It was late morning when I arrived at my first stop, the stream looked very low. Within minutes I had tempted no less than 4 trout to the end of my line and somehow they all got off before I could bring them in. I moved on further West to my actual destination stream, upon arrival I ran into a couple fans of the New Wave Angler series … after a quick chat I set off up stream where I quickly got my hands onto a 16 inch cutthroat - but not in a good way. After that I managed to lose another 4 fish in a row before finally managing a couple different species all the way to the net …. The place was beautiful the trout were hungry … Enjoy!!RIP vloggerJohn

I awoke early this past Sunday morning and headed out to the West country to meet my bro Terry and his trusty dog Parker ... we spent the day in a beautiful canyon chasing the most gorgeous member of the trout family the one and only Oncorhynchus clarkii (The Cutthroat Trout) ... We were the only people on the stream ... Here is a short motion picture capturing the essence of our day .... please watch, enjoy and comment ... Hey everyone well I got out west for the second week in a row this past weekend. Although the weather was much nicer it was actually harder to find good clean fish-able water this weekend.I had my daughter with me on the trip and we camped over at a couple different spots. I managed to get a little brown trout action on the dry fly just before dark on the first night. The next day we headed further west where I could introduce my daughter to some pristine waters and a place that is very special to me.At one spot I let her have a shot with my fly rod and she managed to catch and release her first ever Bull Trout. Before the adventure was over I had a rematch with the bull trout that eluded me last week and well all I'll say is a lot of people have told me that big Bull trout don’t really like dry flies .... I don’t think that is true .... you be the judge. Here are some moving pictures for you to enjoy.Cheers!!

Hey everyone, I got out west for the first time this year on the weekend, On Saturday evening after working later than expected I decided to try and out duel the rainy weather and head into the back country in search of some trout.I drove west and eventually found some clean enough water. The wet stuff caught me here and there but I managed to find enough friendly weather to make it a comfortable day of trout hunting on Sunday. The bigger rivers were high and dirty but I found the major tributary waters to be a little high but mostly quite clear and the little tribs were basically perfect.I fished mostly a dry dropper setup consisting of a Stimmy on top with a bead head Hare's ear nymph as the dropper while exploring the streams. I did tie on a big white streamer for a few minutes while trying to coax a big bull on a tiny stream to meet the inside of my net.I managed to get into a few fish, some small and some of a really nice size ... It turned out to be one of those days where each fish got better and better as the day went on with the best ones coming just before you call it quits and head back home. If you keep searching eventually the beautiful fish will find you.All in all I had a great time for my first outing of the year, I saw some gorgeous nature and some majestic landscapes, met a few wild and native trout along the way and enjoyed a little solitude.I captured some video images of this little adventure for you to enjoy. Check it out and let me know your thoughts.Cheers !!

Hey everyone I just spent a lovely evening fishing with a camp over and a lovely morning fishing on one of my favourite central Alberta brown trout streams. Had some great action both in the evening and again the next morning. I think it may have been a bit better in the morning. I was just wondering everyone's thoughts and preferences on evening verses morning trout fishing. What do you prefer? Does it depend on the stream or which species you are targeting or even which method you are going to use eg. dry's or nymph's or even streamers. Here is a link to the video we shot of our little one night excursion .... Enjoy !!! Let me know your thoughts on the vid and whether your a Dusker or a Dawner
Cheers
