Full report here.
Is there any warm-water fishing in Calgary? I would assume not, but you know what assuming does...

Hey guys, just wanted to share a neat experience I had today at lunch. Wound up fishing with a guy that recently lost a nephew to violence. It's long, so I'll just link to it. It is amazing to me what fishing does for people. I don't know why or how, but it does. That was a wonderful experience today.

Okay, smartphone wielders... anyone else tried Super Dynamite Fishing before?
There are a couple other fly fishing utility apps that I like, but this one is just silly.

I've only seen that guy use barbless spoons in the Amazon. Absolutely fabulous to see him on a fly!

Went out Monday hecka early and threw my first personally tied flies, the Dirty Rat and the Gurgle Bug.
I got an amazing strike on the Dirty Rat, but from what I can tell, I put too much maribou on both of them. Seems like there was too much fly, not enough hook. If anyone has any other input as to why my hookset failed, let me know.
The Gurgle Bug took the First Fly Trophy, though. The action was great, with lots of twitching and, well, gurgling. I tied on my third version and caught a bass four feet from shore as I was pulling up for a close backcast. Instant hookset.
I was apprehensive at first with this fly because the original recipe calls for Eyelash Yarn - which until this writing I thought was fly fishing specific, but is really a yarn that people use in crafting - to give it body and simulate legs. I'm sure this gurgler would be gorgeous with the yarn, but the brown chenille did great.
Feels good catching fish, but feels better catching them on your own fly! And it's cheaper, too!

So, is Canuck a derogatory term? Discuss.

Woohoo! First flies tied!

x2 I like to target the sandy bays in late summer-fall using indacators and Cronimids. The mouths of the marinas are awesome places to get them without indacators and just use Floating line with a Bh nymph! Their a ton of fun on the 4wt
How deep are you guys fishing while you work the indicators?

I put it on my must tie list. Hatches magazine featured it.
How much do you guys think this little beastie will cost to tie? Has anyone tied this particular mousie?

Loved it! I haven't been fishing all week, but had a chance to scout my favorite spot with my brother and daughters this evening.

I love this line. I'm not sure if there are Bass Pro Shops up in Canada, but I know there is the internet. Thus, this forum.
Check it out, and comment away please. Besides, I want to know what to look forward to in a more expensive line.

Way to go, Dispatches from the Potomac. Kudos for the coverage.
Once again, what an amazing organization for veterans to use fly fishing to recover from mental and physical wounds. Really neat pictures, too!

Im the same way, backpack and no vest.I just step off the river and sit down to retie or change flies.
I like the ideas everyone has!
One of the things I am digging about vests is that I don't have to move to do anything. I like the backpack idea for ease and cost, will suggest for wife I think until we can get her something.

Hello!
I got my first vest last Christmas. Here's the review.
I put some questions on that post. Are all vests made equal? Does anyone on FFCalgary use Redington?
Excited to network with you all up North.

I am not sure if I am attaching this video correctly, hopefully you all can view it, it is American, but it is on topic, the vid is about PHW and what it does for the participants, anywhere you have to insert Canada where it refers to the US, Ed Nicholson is the founder of PHW and I think soldiers every where should be thankful for what he has done. In Canada we have expanded the service to EMS, Police, Firefighters, and just about every Canadian that needs it..
These guys and me included don't preach we teach and that way everybody learns and feels good. Watch the video, it explains what Project Healing Waters Canada is all about.

I'm so glad this got bumped. I can't wait to get a hold of my local chapter.

I'm a believer. I can't believe how poorly I have been treating my beloved local fish.
Kirk Deeter and his F&S article opened my eyes.
I blogged about it.
I guarantee I am going to do every one of these things from now on. I was one irresponsible son-of-a-gun before.
