  1. I just bought a couple of these flies, from Highwood House actually (I never thought I would buy flies from a gas station, but these are surprisingly well tied). I just love the look of 'em, but they seem like a real pain to tie. Does anybody ever fish with them? Seems to me they would work really well as a searching pattern on some mountain streams...

I've also heard they work better the more beat up they get. I would love to see a picture of a really chewed up one.

  2. Wow! Sweet photos. That cutty had some interesting colours. I have never seen a fish quite like that in Alberta. I am pretty interested in that lesson the Humble Fisherman taught you about grasshoppers in fast water. Care to divulge?

  3. That sucks. My wife and I hit one coming back from Sheep River Provincial Park in July. We hit it more or less straight on and it rolled all the way over our vehicle, then bounced off the trunk and landed on its back onto the pavement. It sort of kicked around on its back for a few seconds, and then bounded off into the tall grass. The stupid thing took off our mirror and *hit all over the windows and trunk. We got really lucky, considering that you have 7 G's worth of damage.

Have you guys ever heard the Louis C.K. bit about deers? Funny suff.

  4. Thanks for the replies guys. I picked up some Wilkinson Sword Blades at London Drugs yesterday. They seem to work pretty well. Much better than my dull scissors.

How long do those razors last for. I shaved 5 wooly sculpins with one and it seemed to lose some steam by then end. Is this typical or just my imagination?

    Thanks

  5. You mean double-edged razor blades for a safety razor? Wal-mart, London Drugs, Shoppers, or almost any place that sells shaving stuff. The sharpest ones out there are made by Feather, but the Personnas, Merkur, and Gillette ones are pretty good too.

I'm not really sure what I mean... I'll check out double-edged razor blades for a safety razor. It just seems that typical razor blades, found in mach 3's and such, are much to thin. I assume that the above razors are much thicker. Checked Wally World last night and didn't see anything that I was looking for, I'll have to check one of the drug stores.

    Thanks

  6. Hey everybody, I'm tying up a bunch of streamers with Muddler style deer hair heads (zoo cougars, bow river buggers, etc.), but I am currently cutting and shaping the heads with my scissors. This is a bit cumbersome. So... where can you buy razors to cut the heads? I'm looking for some fatter razors that I can easily bend/work with. I don't think that the ones from my Mach 3 will do the trick?

    Thanks

  7. I've caught all my bigger bulls on double bunnies, but I've heard that Clousers work as well. Can anybody corroborate this? I've tied up a bunch of 3-4" Clousers with big lead eyes in combinations of white, chartruese, yellow, and black.

I love fishing for bulls, but I find that they are much more difficult to set the hook on than other trout. Any thoughts?

  8. Is there a difference between swinging a streamer and swinging a soft hackle? I've caught two big fish swinging a streamer in the Bow, but I've had no success swinging streamers or wets the last 4 or 5 times I've been out, and I've spent quite a bit of time chuckin 'em.

Any tips on swinging a streamer or wet? What type of water on the Bow do you guys fish with this method (pools, riffles, eddies, flats, etc.)? Has anyone ever had success fishing classic soft hackle patterns like a "partridge and orange"?

I just want to feel that "tug" again!!!
