  2. when i was a kid i used to work for a farmer at the market and all of his produce would come from the states. all of the bags he would have us remove the usa tags from. we would actually make signs out of cardboard boxes and magic marker to make it seem more local and sell it that way. the supplier he used was the exact same as the big supermarkets. kinda sad really. ever since that i figured my money goes to essentially the same people. there is still middle men and wholesalers involved. so is the farmers market really the farmers market? i dont think so.

  4. Nice job, will it float?Could be pasted as a stone fly also if you skid it.

i have no idea if it will float. i presume it will. it is made of polyester carpet yarn. if it doesnt its ok though. i think the legs should give it some cool action. if it is a sinker well thats not 15 bottles of gink will cure. its way too big to pass as a stone fly. its a 4" fly

  5. all i do is let him go in the water right away when i arrive. let him get it out of his system. as for them getting bored i just throw sticks every time i change a spot and it keeps him entertained. he spooks fish sometimes but in my opinion its part of the fun. he is my really bad fishin buddy somedays and spooks every hole and other days he just sniffs flowers and does his own thing. i like the company of having my dog with me. and he gives me an excuse if i dont catch anything. i just tell my wife it was the dogs fault.

  6. Great advice everyone! I have been watching some youtube videos on mending line. I assumed I knew what was doing before... but I didn't. My mind has been blown a little bit.

good to hear. if you stick with it you will get the hang of it. if you ever want to head out with me just let me know. i would be happy to help out as much as possible.

  7. The law states that there has to be a PFD for every person in the boat but like Robert said, they do absolutly nothing if they aren't worn. Who in their right mind thinks that a person will have the composure to retrive and put on a PFD if the boat capsises, especially if they can't swim. This so called "law" has to change.

survival of the fittest. Its population control. <--poke--<

  8. HAha fly fishing Gangsta/ninja face hey.

Nice looking brown and nice work with the pictures.

yeah i stole maxwells idea and set the camera on the shore with timer on and got a couple bent rod shots. not easy doing that while fighting that brute.

  9. Real nice brown. Why do you look so pissed off? Is that your 'Bow Riva Gangsta' face? ;)

nah, just my bow river ninja look. cant let the opponent know what your up to.

  10. bear, bear, bear. Thats all i keep hearing lately. way overdone. it seems everyone feels that bears are out to get anyone who ventures out into the woods. silver doc nailed it. pay attention and give space. they will run for the hills if you follow that procedure. as for cougars i will agree i would be more wary of them. Quite often if you see one, it means it has been following you. they are very keen and know that you are there well before you know it is there. However i would say i am much more wary of moose especially in the fall and bulls in particular. they are much more territorial than any of the above mentioned animals. I am very surprised nobody has mentioned that yet. But all in all, just pay attention and enjoy your day. From the sounds of things quite a few of you guys are more decked out in bear gear more than fly gear. i would love to see that.

  11. in my opinion from my experience when i was new. it is not what your fishing, its how your fishing. at least it was that way for me. the fish in the bow will eat practically anything you throw at em. the key is just in how you present it. i remember when i started i was swinging those bumble bees that came with the rod package at crappy tire and once i knew how to use em i caught fish. i also remember when i had no idea what dry flyin meant and used to take any dry and add split shot to it. like silver said. just get out there and dont get discouraged. it took me a while to figure out the bow, but once i did you hook plenty.

[When you're hiking with your significant other and she asks what was that, do not say sasquatch. Apparently not funny, and it would seem she is not convinced they do not exist. The sound was a bull elk bugling, which could be compared to a sound a bigfoot might make for what it's worth.

Personally I think a samskwonch would sound something like this- "what the f@*K are you looking at !?" ]

hahah thats too funny. I did the same thing with my wife and now she wont go hiking with me anymore. instead she just says go with the dog and go fishing. I love samsquanch.

  13. FNG and others make a good point, if people get written up but never convicted, how will that deter them from doing it again? While I'm all for education, I believe the best kind is one that kicks you in the a*&, whether it be your wallet or gear. How many of us know when to do/not do something, but until we actually mess up do we learn our lesson (e.g. speeding tickets, etc.). I would be all for paying extra $$ for my license (we have the cheapest deal in Canada!), as long as 100% of those extra funds go into enforcement and protection of our rivers. Also, perhaps we need to look at the system. I'm not sure what the process is, but perhaps once a CO catches someone they hand out a ticket and take their gear away (like a drunk driver). Then, the only reason why a person would not pay the fine is if they contested it in court-like a traffic ticket. Make it more CO favorable and less poacher favorable.

i was in fish creek park on may long got hit up by a CO so i showed him everything and all was good. we cahtted for a little while and he had probably about 15 to 20 rods in his arms that he took away from poachers. half were fly rods and half were spinners. i could not believe he had that many and he said he had more in the truck already. some pretty nnice sage rods in the mix as well. I sure hope all those idiots learned their lesson and play by the rules. i know i would if i lost my rod.
