Bamboo rods have a nostaglia about them that romanticizes the whole sport of fly fishing when simpler times existed. I have not had the good fortune of casting a bamboo rod (especially a quality one) but it certainly evokes an image of fly fishing in the past. Thanks for your response, Lorence.

Hello
I was wondering if anyone can give me some advice regarding bamboo rods. A non fishing friend of mine was given 2 bamboo fly rods and said they were mine for whatever I determined to be a fair price. The name on the wooden box is International Fishing Tackle Port Colbert but there isn't a name on the rods. I have researched the brand but nothing comes up. In fact the closest that I can determine to be the location of the brand is a town in France. I have read articles on how to evaluate bamboo rods but I am no wiser regarding the relative value of these rods. Searches on websites have produced a range of prices, which is not helpful in determining the value of these rods. I haven't tried casting them which I realize might be helpful. Is there anything that anyone can suggest to help me determine the value of these rods? Thanks
Mike

It was a great day trying out the different rods. Now I realize why it is so easy to get hooked on the big rods. Thanks for organizing it Greg.

Here's a few from today. Got out with Mditel from the board & we had a great day. Good weather, nice fish, good company & unsurpassed scenery. Fish went for dries as well as nymphs, the good ol' SJW did us proud today. I hope you enjoy the pics.
It was a great day. As we found out yesterday the worm ruled.

I thought that I would post some of my favorite pics from Sept.
Action Shot..
My first Pike on the Bow. From today(i know it's october now). I saw him in 2 feet of water about 2 feet out from shore. I threw on the biggest streamer I had which about 6 inches long. He slammed it within seconds. However, i was using 6pound test, he chewed right through it and took off with my streamer. About 30minutes later, I came back to check on him to see if he was still there. And of course he was. Sitting there soaking up the sun. This time i spliced on some 12pound test through on another streamer and got him in.
I hope you all enjoy....

When swinging nymphs, since most of the hits are at the end of the drift and close to the bank, do you find it is better to move upstream or downstream for night fishing? If I move upstream the hits will be occurring in the area that I will be moving away from. But if I move downstream I will be swinging the nymph into new water. I have always tended to move upstream and have wondered if I have spooked fish (even when I stay out of the water). Which method works best? I did catch my first night brown-22 incher at midnight two nights ago, a few feet from shore but I couldn't get any others. What a rush in the dark!!!! Thanks to all the tips from this board.

I have a TFO 10 ft. 6 wt. and it makes mending on the river a lot easier. It also is great in a belly boat. The TFO warranty is topnotch.

Thanks again for all of the great input. They cost me a bottle of scotch and we were both happy.
