  1. Beauty brown! I'd also guess trico's... though it almost looks thick enough to be light foggy patches. wow. was anything sipping off the top in quiet water? Sometimes those big fish will key on trico's and you can almost bank on joining the 20/20 club when they do :)

I can assure you that those clouds were insects. It was really cool to watch the clouds ebb and flow. Before we had arrived where the bugs were congregating I said to Dmac that it looks like someone is camping on the shore and must a lit a fire, this was probably 1/2 mile up river.

We stopped quite a few times to watch the slow water and eddys and there were no snouts, sucked as I was ready with my 4 wt to get in on all of this dry action I keep reading about...

  2. Went for a float with my buddy dmac on Saturday. On the water for 6AM tried Nymphing for about an hour or so and nothing happening. Switch over to streamers and second or third cast something just smashs the streamer and runs upstream. Dmac is driving and is working at getting the boat out of the current. Fish starts running at the boat and I am stripping line like there is no tommorow he sees the boat and takes off downstream. Then he decides to tease us with a glimpse of his belly, pops up and rolls over and all we see is gold and white and proceeds to take off back upstream. Dmac gets the boat parked and jumps out with the net, and I am able to get the fishes head up long enough for Dmac to net him.....

Biggest and prettiest Brown I have ever caught. Not taped but at least 22-24"

Further downstream we run into a massive Trico? hatch looked like streams of smoke coming off the shore. Nothing rising to it....

Streamers were the ticket for the day with a couple more bows landed and even more LDR'ed. All in all it was a great day and it was nice to be out early and by the looks of the parking lot at Carseland we had quite the floatila coming down behind us.

  3. Rufus28,

If that is directed towards me, I never leave home for an outdoor adventrue in the mountains or anywhere else without mine.

Do you have another means of Emergency Notification now that you have your pilots lic, that you do not need the SPOT? Heaven forbid the plane go down and or comms be lost on the plane, I think the spot would be a great "Back UP in that case.

I have no stake in or anything thing like that in SPOT. just think they are a great tool.

It was directed at the original poster....Sorry for the confusion.

I do not have my license yet as my shoulder is screwed up requiring surgery and I do not feel safe to fly with the condition it is in.

(Being Non intentional Hijack).....The SPOT is a great tool and there is a huge debate (read anti government) in the aviation community right now regarding ELT's (Emergency Location Transmitters) and Transport Canada. The long and the short of it is Owner's and Pilot's feel the ELT system and the new 406 ELT's are not better (in some cases worse) that the old 121 system.

I carried mine specially or my Solo Cross Country Flights and so the wife could check in on me via Google Maps.

    (End Hijack)

I also took it last year on a trip up to fox creek last fall. No cell coverage so it allowed me to send an "I'm OK" message to the wife everyday.

  4. Read this, http://flyfishcalgary.com/flyfisher_survival_kit.php , I think the important part for your adventure is the Spot information.. you can borrow one, and have the owner set it up with your info, temporarily.

I have done a lot of solo fly fishing and even hunting trips , the hunting trips are day trips but the fly fishing have been as long as a week, with only the Dog(s) to talk to.. Love it for my own reasons...

    remember this..

Failing to plan is planing to fail...

All that being said, Barnaby Ridge, is closed they are installing an sewage plant there for the ski hill, so you may want to skip it... they moved all the imaginary fish to Nicolas Sharon Lake in Lethbridge.. Rainy ridge, the lake collapsed and there is a mud hole there now..

Just stay home and fish the Toilet Bow river.

I have a SPOT unit that I do not need anymore...I was using it when I was doing my pilots license. PM me if you are interested...

  5. This is really a 10 year ~$100M contract and I doubt either Kovalchuk or NJD expect him to be playing beyond 2020. The last five years or so of the contract are for chump change (by NHL standards). The 17 years is just manipulation by Lamoriello to keep the cap hit down to a more manageable number.

Hopefully the next CBA will address these types of contracts as it's something of a loophole. That aside, I'm still not sold that this isn't a contract that NJD will regret down the road.

    Cheers,

    Ben

Looks like the NHL says no...

  6. Just like any other televised sport?

    With you there...

I have had seasons ticket for the Roughnecks for the last 4-5 years. I absolutely love the game, it is fast, lots of action, great atmosphere and exciting for the fans. I think it is more exciting to watch than hockey....LIVE

TV is another story, Lacrosse is just not a TV sport. You lose too much watching it on TV, I think soccer is probably very similar. I have never been to a true world class match but I am sure the atmosphere of 100 000 people roaring, chanting and carrying on would make up for lull's in the action on the pitch.

  7. Lynn,

I have artifical turf in my entire yard front and back. I have two dogs and it is great. They can't kill it and it is easy to clean up. You price of $12/sq foot seems pretty high. I paid between $7-8 sq/foot installed. I know the company I used will also just sell you the turf so you can install it your self. I think it runs around $4-5 a square. PM me and I can give you their details.

  8. Whatever you buy make sure to go to car cost canada's website. It costs $39.95 but you can build and price many vehicles. It will give you the dealer wholesale price and any incentive programs they are offering. I used it to buy my new truck and ended up saving close to $8000. The best thing is that High River Toyota is a preferred dealer for Car Cost and they will honur the wholesale price plus a 3-7 points. Ask for Bob Shaw, let him know Brad Ingram sent you.

  9. Went out with Fruincalgary last night, absolutely gorgeous night to be fishing. I caught 5 and landed 2, Fruin caught 3 and landed one. One of his that got LDR'ed looked like a monster. Thanks for the great time Craig, hope to out with you again sometime soon.

My first posting on the board.....I have an Aire 142D (14 ft commercial grade inflatable) drift boat with fly fishing rig and am looking for buddies on the Bow. I did the Fish Ck to Policemans stretch a couple times last fall after getting the boat, but am otherwise a Bow newbie. Have a few years of experience on other waters - Kootenay creeks, Elk, St Mary, Middle Fork Salmon, Selway, Birkenhead, etc.

    I am looking for:

    1. Buddies to get together with afternoons/evenings or full days during the week (self employed - so I can generally go play at short notice when conditions are good). One or two other guys in the boat would be great - share the rowing. Bow experts most welcome! Other newbies welcome too - we can figure it out together. Just brought the boat back to Calgary tonight and want to get out a few times before runoff hits in full strength.

    AND

    2. Father/son buddies. I have a 6 year old son who loves being on the river and flyfishing. Looking for companions for the summer months. We will be in town all of July and can get out any day on short notice. We also do a lot of extended trips - (day trips on the Elk while camping in Fernie / week long N Fork Flathead trip in July, etc.) Have many trips planned through the summer and am particularly keen on overnight trips. Also enjoy walk & wade and will be exploring the foothills.

    Drop me a line.
