Lesley Peterson is Trout Unlimited Canadas Alberta biologist, based in Calgary, and a member of the provincial Whirling Disease Committee. Petersons presentation will include a background on whirling disease including the life cycle of the parasite that causes it, the history and distribution of the disease and how it can affect fish. She will also provide an update on the situation in Alberta and what we can all do to prevent the spread of whirling disease and other aquatic invasive species."

Did anyone go? Any revelations? I just saw this thread now; would have liked to have gone.

Thanks for your feedback, good food for thought.

So my girls are 5 and 6 and they're really showing an interest in angling. Right now it's just Barbie rods but I'm thinking, "wouldn't it be better if, at this young age, they learned how to wield a fly rod?" you know, just like it's easier for kid to pick up a language than it is an adult. I am curious to know what kind of experiences others have had, and whether anyone offers casting lessons geared towards kids.
Cheers

Took my girls to a cutty stream this summer, throwing spinners, streamers and SJWS with weighted bobber from a spin rod. Managed a few small ones each. Requires some walking/wading but they had fun. Also heard Pine Coulee Rez is a great place for kids to catch from the dock.
