  1. Russells has been owned by Wholesale Sports for a number of years so everything Wholesale sports sells now will be moved to their store. Everything else, including hunting goods, is on sale. UFA bought Wholesale sports a year or two ago which is a huge stretch from their core business. Lots of good deals to be had if your looking but still I wish Russells was remaining open. Rick.

  2. I broke the handle on mine and contacted the manufacture and they told me they were no longer supporting the product. To bad because I had just purchased a hummingbird portable and wouldn't have if I had know they were no longer selling parts for such a good product. Then one day in Edmonton I found the handle at the Fishin Hole so I'm back in business. Rick.

  3. I just restocked my bench with all the colors this week. I use a 28 gauge needle to fill the lace for both sizes. I got a whole box full from a paramedic who knows I'm not a drug user. I really doubt you could fill it with a head cement squeeze bottle as the lace is too small to fit over it. The thing I really enjoy about liquid lace is by using different base colors of thread and/or dubbing you can tie the same fly in limitless variations of finished color and then .... get the pens out and the sky is the limit. Most important though is, fish like it too. Rick.

  4. My soon-to-be son-law guides on the Bow and takes clients on night floats every year. He says a full moon gives more than enough light but then again he knows the river very well. They did a full moon float last Friday night /Saturday morning and he said the fishing was awesome. Lots of double headers. The big browns come out to play after dark I'm told. All dry fly fishing. Last weekend the fish were taking stoneflies on the surface. They often launch from 22x, fish for a few hours set up camp and caddis fish most of the night from shore, sleep a couple of hours and then float downstream at sun up. I'm still having trouble getting my butt going by 10 in the morning but some night I may tag along in my pontoon. I'm still a little chicken I guess but it does sound like fun.

    Rick.

  5. I think you should seek a doctors opinion. This site is great for advice regarding the sport of Fly Fishing. I'm certain we all want what's best for you and that would/should include seeking a medical opinion. If walking is difficult you could have a serious problem. Don't ignore it. Rick.

  6. It will take time for sure. Google Tom Cutmore and have a look at his pointers and tips. It is a great site and he is a Norvise Master. I had the pleasure of seeing him tie at Fishtales this winter. Rick.

  7. Red SJW is always worth a try. Last Friday I had reasonable success with the SJW and a size 16 pheasant tail (no Bead) trailer. Hooks ups were about a 50/50 split between the two hooks. Never really figured things out in terms of water depth and speed. We caught fish from the shore line right out to the middle and shallow and deep. Hard to figure those fish out. Enjoy. Rick.

  8. It really doesn't matter how much stock a store has in the loading dock. It needs to be on the shelves and racks for us to buy it. I have been very dissapointed trying to buy fly tying material at W.S. over the past several months. Not sure what the problem is but I suspect it's the same as many other retail stores, they can't find enough staff to get the job done.

  9. Any fly with a goose biot tail. I can never get them to spread the way I want. Drives me nuts. I've seen some tie in both biots at the same time and I'm just in awe.

Some ideas that I thought I would share:

    - I always slap on the hand lotion when using deer/elk hair. Stops the loose hair and underfur from sticking like magnets to my hands.

    - One day at the bank the teller had this little plastic thing used to moisten her fingers for counting money. I can't turn two pages without licking my finger so I asked her where she got it and if she liked it. They buy it from a local stationary place so I went and got some. It's great for dubbing. Not a wax, just a moisturizer.

    - if your dubbing is looking clumpy your probably using too much at once. Dub more sparsely and use more wraps.

  10. Conor.

I have been tying with a norvice for a couple of years now. I really can't imagine not using an automatic bobbin with a norvice. You will appreciate having one for sure. I have three now and probably 18 spools in all. I only use the novice bobbin so can't say much about the other brand although I like the idea of being able to us a normal thread spool with it. I still use my old bobbin for threading the orange head after tying a stimulator but that's about it. The small jaws shown in the picture by Badger are great. I just got them in February and they are much better for tying flies with tails in my opinion. Enjoy your new vice. once you get it check out Tom Cutmore's web site for some very valuable pointers. Rick.

  11. Just had to tell you fellow members I won a gift basket of fly fishing gear from SuperFly. They had a draw after the Fly Fishing Exposition in Calgary and drew my name and I received the basket yesterday. I had no idea it was coming. It contained fly lines, lots of streamside tools, leaders, tippet, net lanyards and much more. All the stuff is under a new product label called "Simply SuperFly" and looks to be high quality all the way. Thanks to SuperFly. Made my day for sure. Rick.

  12. Lonefisher. Some of my flies look like I tied them in the dark.. but I didn't.

I picked up an Ott-Lite after Christmas at Micheals for 50% off. They were on sale for 40% off but if you had the coupon they gave the full 50. Now I just need some time to use it. Thanks to all. Rick.
