  1. Hi Don. Came across two large dams yesterday. Sorry, no GPS so I don't have the coordinates. The first one is upstream of the 761 bridge. From the bridge, it's about 1/3 of the way to the farmhouse (the one with the two big dogs that always come down to greet me). This particular dam has increased the water levels and decreased the speed of the flow all the way past that same farmhouse. It is now too deep to wade in those sections.

The second one is upstream of the BFW bridge. I came across it after fishing upstream from the bridge for maybe 45 - 60 minutes. It is very large as well. I would say it is just slightly east of the Lazy M barns. The area around and upstream of this dam is now a total swamp.

I have helped out with dam removal in the past. Send word if help is needed in that regard. Many thanks.

  2. I was down there a couple weeks ago and fished the Salt River in Tonto Park. About a 30 minute drive from where we were staying in the east part of Scottsdale near Fountain Hills. They stock it with rainbows so all the fish I caught were small, in the 10 inch range, but it was a very cool experience to fish amongst the cactii and the Arizona mountains. You'll need an Arizona fishing licence, as well as a day pass to park in the Tonto park. I'm told you have to buy the parking pass in town beforehand because they don't sell them at the park. Apparently you can get them at Circle K. Once in the park, we parked at a place called Water Users. I got my fishing licence at Walmart. I'd post some pics if I knew how - sorry 'bout that. Have fun.

  3. Trying to arrange a wedding for next year. Anyone know of any interesting places to hold such an event in the Calgary area? I suppose we'll go the hotel route if we have to, although I was hoping for something a bit different. Approximately 100 people in attendance. Wedding and reception will likely be held in the same venue. Thanks for taking the time to respond.

  4. Big shout out to Wongs and Pipestoneflyguy for all of their efforts. To Toolman and Gordon for the demos. And to the fly shops for their support. It was a very enjoyable day. I think Murray and Lonnie and I picked up a couple hundred golf balls - maybe someone should speak to Willow Park G & CC about errant range balls. Looking forward to next year!

  5. Thanks guys. Now I've started thinking, if I'm that far east I might as well go a bit further and check out Bullshead. Have yet to fish it. I'll have to check with the boss though to see if she'll OK some additional driving. Pike and walleye on the fly sound good too though. Hmmm. Decisions, decisions.

  6. Goldeye Lake has a great campground and the lake is stocked with rainbows which are easy to catch. Fish Lake just down the road is much the same. Great walk n wade fishing off the trunk road, north to the Blackstone or south to the North Ram. Have a good time!

  7. I have a 4 wt, 4 piece TFO which I use a lot. It came with a nice case and packs up really well, so it's great if you're going to hike up a creek a ways before fishing, or for hike-in lakes. For big rivers like the Bow, or for chucking streamers, I go with my 6 wt. I would suggest you tell your wife that you simply can't do without a smaller rod. I'm sure she'll understand :-)
