reevesr1 Posted April 25, 2009 Posted April 25, 2009 Paul, I am not any type of expert on MPA's, but I do know all the fish conservation associations I am aware of (and that's admittedly not that many) were vehemently opposed. MPAs are seen as an attempt to stop fishing completely, not manage it. My info is several years old, and could be dated. This is not catch and release. This is NO fishing whatsoever. And the areas they tend to want to pick? The most fertile ones. Save fishing by stopping it completely. Nice. Quote
Harps Posted April 26, 2009 Author Posted April 26, 2009 Hey Rick, I never even looked into the cause... I just like the video. I am all for having areas where no fishing is allowed, especially commercial fishing. Protect fertial areas and fish numbers increase outside of those areas too... of course I don't believe in total banning of fishing, but we need better regulations on timing and gear restriction, I also think there should be areas where there is no consumptive human use allowed... and even areas of research only.
