Lost gear at Clear Lake (east of Stavely)

On the afternoon of Saturday, May 16th, after almost sinking my boat while nearing the boat launch at Clear Lake a few items were lost that we weren't able to recover in time before the wind took them to the north end of the lake, they were:

- Fly box with a number of salt water streamers (for pike fishing!)

- one wooden oar with oar lock

- one small cooler (you can keep what was in it too!)

If you saw or saved any of this stuff I appreciate a note back.  Be willing to pay small reward for the fly box and/or oar. Also, will send endless good karma your way too!

Also, I just want to say thanks again to some of the people that helped me and a friend (who almost drowned) out.  We are forever grateful for all you did.

Thanks!!

Dan

Thanks for the thoughts.  Very scary moment and the craziest thing was that this happened from the point i was dropped off at the dock in order to get my truck to the boat launch (~60 metres).  Crazy.

I live on one of these southern Alberta lakes and yes things can go from flat calm to 4-5’ whitecaps in minutes. Always have to pay attention to where you are on the lake an have a plan. You can see storms on the horizon from a long way out. They don’t always turn into wicked storms and sometimes completely miss the lake. But when you do see clouds on the horizon get closer to the launch so you can exit quick. Or fish in a bay or stay close to a shore where you can pull the boat close and out of the waves and wait it out.
If you wait until the storm hits and the wind starts before thinking of your exit strategy it’s going to be a *hit show. Especially at a busy launch that is getting hammered by 4-5’ waves.
Glad to hear that you got through it unharmed. I witness these kinds of things regularly on my lake and it doesn’t always turn out well.
