Still Water Grayling?

Recommended Posts

I was out fishing for Grayling today in a small lake today. There is still ice in the middle of the lake but I was fishing the edges. I could see lots of grayling but couldn't get any to go after any of the 1/2 dozen nymphs I presented. They would swim right up but give it a pass. Could not figure out what they where after.

I tired the smallest tippet I had and still no luck.

Anyone have experience with grayling on here that can share some advice?

That pond was stalked with new batch of grayling last year. I had tons of fun catching them as they would hit anything that moved caught over 50 of the little guys. They will be a lot more picky now. As suggested chironomids are the best option in that particular pond.

Good luck

I had the same thing happen to me a few years ago, same time of year, lake mostly still frozen. I went small with the flies and tippet, then it turned out that putting on a black leech was the ticket. Go out and try again soon, fairly soon they'll be spawning and not interested at all.
