  1. Was an awesome early low water season. Scored on some nice browns and a good sized bull. On 2 favourite streams saw salmonflies emerging on one, goldens on the other. Knowing my luck, had to go back to work for 2 weeks and missed the egg laying frenzy.

  2. Broke the tip of my vintage Orvis Western Spring Creek rod yesterday. Upon emailing Orvis for repair, I was informed that they can't do it because the rod is 36 years old and no parts are available. The rod has sentimental value to me and I was wondering if anyone closer to home than Vermont repairs rods. The tip section that broke is about 2" long, I suppose I could get by with an 8' 10" rod instead of a 9 footer.

  3. Thanks for your reply. If you could perhaps point me to a local taxidermist who might be able to reshape the tail, I could probably live with it. Just a shame though, you pay $700+ for a mount and don't get what you want.  Kind of got that impression when talked to them on the phone - they were going to take it and do their own thing with it.

Don't even mention the delivery, I'm lucky I even received it. They used UPS and I cringed when I heard that. I've had issues with these morons in the past and they didn't disappoint this time. Sure they got the first 4 numbers right but dropped the package at the wrong avenue. The box sat on the porch of these people's house all afternoon, they were honest and called to tell me it was there.

All in all one crappy experience.

  4. Just wondering if anyone has had any experience with Advanced Taxidermy in Ontario. I have a neighbor who has had 4 fish done by them and is quite happy, so I decided to bite the bullet and get one for myself. A few years back, I caught a nice sized cutt on the North Ram that I wanted re-created. Talked to them a couple times on the phone, sent 2 detailed pictures and the size of the fish. What I got back (over a year later) was nothing like I was expecting. The cutt looks absolutely nothing like the one I caught. I can't even hang the picture next to it because it doesn't match. For a company that prides themselves in re-creating trophy fish, matching the dimensions and spot patterns, they totally crapped the bed on mine. This cutthroat also came with a perfectly square tail which no cutthroat that swims anywhere has. And they get damn right defensive when you call them on their errors. Buyer beware, nothing I can do about it, but I'll be steering clear from these guys if I ever want a re-creation done again.

I've always used Simms but my last set of G3 Guides where nothing but trouble. Leak after leak. No joy for the price. Last year I tried a pair of Reddington Sonic Pro's with a front zipperand love em. The other Idea is to look for wast high waders (Wading pants). Unless you are wading chest high they are a good bet (don't wade where the fish are). Bass Pro had a good brand a couple of years back when I worked in the fly shop, Lasted 6 years.

Might have been an off-pair??? I've been using my G3s for over 10 years and no troubles whatsoever.

  6. Obviously this social or physical distancing thing hasn't filtered up to the great white north. In the small town I live in, if someone lights a campfire, it attracts people like flies. Yesterday one of them had a fire in his driveway and there had to be about 8 of them standing around it after a time. Just have to shake my head. Can't wait for some open water so I can go sit by myself on my pontoon.

  7. It's been a long time since I've posted in here (years actually), but I'm in the market for an inflatable pontoon boat. Ordered one off Amazon, a Colorado XTS that's backordered. I'm not sure if they can even bring this model in anymore. Who's using what out there, and what do you recommend? I'm looking for something 9 feet long and I already have a 30lb thrust electric and battery box.

    Thanks - Mike

  8. Assuming they kept the fish is jumping to a conclusion with out facts and not really fair. The video was uploaded in January 2010 and we are not sure when the fishing took place. It could also be from a different water body at a different/ earlier date and they are actually not interested in hot spotting like so many others.

If it is in fact the Oldman river the biggest crime in my eyes is there are Rainbows in a Cutthroat river. Gross negligence right there.

    What are you, a lawyer?

  9. HVAC units in my opinion fall into 3 main companies...Lennox, Carrier and Trane. Last year I was in need of a whole system (furnace and central air) and had quotes from the Lennox dealer in my town and a consultation with Sears who sells Carrier. If you're talking just central air, Lennox came in at around $4100 and the Carrier unit through Sears was out of this world at $5000. I got a huge shock when I went to Home Depot who sells Trane systems. The central air unit came in at just over $3000 installed. So I got my high efficiency furnace and central air for $9400. By the way, my house is about 1/2 the size of yours. I don't know how I lived before without central air...you're going to love it.

  10. I can attest to the fact that shipping is outrageous from Canada.I recently shipped a rod down to Oregon that cost me right around $50+ iirc(?)

,and the return shipping from Beulah was a flat $30.

Hell, sent a reel to NS and another to NB and it was $20 each!!Then I flew to NB in July and AC only charged me 30 bucks extra baggage for entire hockey bag fulla fishn gear!!

Canada Post sucks, and UPS quotes were double that again!!

Don't get me started on UPS. Didn't have a problem with them until they lost a $420 ski jacket I was returning because it fell apart. So much for the insurance I bought...almost $60 for shipping and insurance and they ended up not paying me a dime.

  11. ^ this. BiggyJ hit it on the head. Get two different subspecies and you are set.

Ahhh Honeyberries. They kick the crap out of Saskatoons any day. I built a patch in my yard 3 seasons ago with 5 different types and we end up with more fruit than we can eat ourselves. They aren't called the "Blueberry of the North" for nothing.

PS: My neighbor makes a kick ass honeyberry wine that you can drink like Kool Aid.

  12. I agree with you, but the last post is of a moderator who says nice fish or something like that. I am not a member on that board, but if I was I would post on that topic and take the risk of getting banned...

I did the exact same thing this morning. I was disgusted by that pic and the story and joined the Fish Bonker Forum to let them know exactly how I felt. I also wanted to see just how long it would take for me to get banned. Not long after I posted I started getting hate replies and soon after that received a lifetime ban. No sweat off my balls, I can't stand that forum.
