Greetings all,
I hope everyone had a great season so far. As for myself, my life is now going through change. I will be moving to British Columbia shortly where our family is originally from. Have promised my wife to return and we feel we need to help the family out there and retire. I have enjoyed this beautiful province, chasing trout in our wonderful streams and rivers. It has been fun doing demo fly tying over the years and tying for local shops and Fly Fishers. A great many of you I have fished with and called friends, I treasure all these relationships.I will be stepping down as Administrator of this forum. Being in BC will no longer allow me a local perspective. I wish you all shining waters full of rising trout for all your days.

I was fishing below the 'moon pool' at the SHP side channel and just started my wade. I noticed a gentleman in a kayak upstream, maybe 200m away. I kept swinging soft hackles and stepping down. A fish hit my hackle really hard, but came off and I was stuck with a really difficult tangle, so I moved out of the lane and proceeded to try and get untangled.
All of a sudden, this gentleman in the kayak was coming down the outflow from the moon pool and proceeded to yell 'HEY!!' at the top of his lungs right behind me. I was quite startled and instinctively jumped and yelled back 'What the f*** is the matter with you!?' He answered back with 'You're what's the matter! You guys are all wrecking it! This river is mine, nobody should be on my river...' blah blah blah as he drifted away from me. He was yelling at the top of his lungs and shaking his fist all the way down and around the corner back towards the main. This was weird, almost like he swapped his shopping cart for a kayak!
Maybe he did.

Suspenders work better than a belt on waist highs for me.

My latest waders have actually been my longest-lasting Reddington sonic-Pro HDZ. 3 years so far. When these finally go I am tempted to go full circle and go back to hip waders again. or at least waist highs.

Just read the email notice I received over again, and all the reservoirs on the Bow River are also affected, so Ghost - Bearspaw - Glenmore - Bassano and the St. Mary's bodies of water are also under the TOD restrictions. Sheesh...we need a lot more manpower to cover all of those as well!
I noticed someone casting in the Bow on the way home from work, I parked and took a quick walk down to the angler. He was an older gentleman, that didn't need to buy a licence anymore, and didn't sign up/wasn't aware there were emails or forums that would notify him of shutdowns. He mentioned he had enough fishing/tying materials to last his life and hardly ever went into a fly shop anymore...so how do anglers such as this ever find out about closures?
At any rate, I saw him walking along the bike path with his rod broken down, probably heading back to the car - turned out for the best on this one.
That was a good deed.

Doesn’t Fairbanks own Rio lines as well.
Rio is the champion of putting 7 wt. lines in a 5 weight box.
Don
They own Rio, Sage, and Reddington.

I wish someone would make decent waders that last more than a few seasons, I have had a run around with a few different brands. My Simms Guides for example were sent back 3 times for repair and I finally gave up on them when the crotch seam went.

We have lost much of this over the years, As a young man the older guys would never think of bing so boorish on streams as I have seen nowadays. My fishing partner and I are careful and chat with others to establish the direction they're fishing and how we all approach the water.

Love seeing the young trout, it means some are getting through whirling disease.

Here is how to reverse the F2 Bighorn.
1. Remove the spool by placing your thumbs on the small black/grey rubber, and push, the reel should come off.
2. Remove the rubbers on both sides of the reel (drag knob and axel)
3. On the axel housing you will see a little notch, you will have to remove this one with a small Alan key (hex wrench)
4. In the drag knob you will see a screw, remove and twist off drag knob completely
5. You will be able to pull the complete drag housing apart and will see the inside of it (cork, brass insert etc.)
6. Remove the brass insert and the axel out of the axel housing
7. Inside you will see a ribbed 'insert' this is the 'one-directional bearing', you can gently push it out, in most cases it will slide out
8. Turn the bearing 180 degrees and put it back in; make sure you take it out in such a way that it doesn’t fall, if you by accident drop it and put it back, I guess you have a 50-50% chance you changed the retrieve : ))
9. Now your reel is the opposite retrieve
10. Place back the axel and brass sleeve, and slide back on the axel attached to the reel housing
11. Twist on the drag knob
12. Screw in the tiny notch/screw in the axel part of the housing
13. To set the drag: tighten the knob in such a way that if you turn it from 5 to 12 counterclockwise back to 12 you should feel the drag come lose (at 12 is where the screw will be stopped by a peg and will be your drags range, let's say)
14. You can set your drag a bit tighter or looser by placing the screw at 5 to 12 or let's say 10 to 12.
15. Put back the rubbers
Please make sure you take it apart above a towel, the screws are pretty small and fall and bounce everywhere.Good luck

I did one in the fly shop a while back, it was years ago but I believe you pop the rubber inserts and then flip the bearing. It was a bit tricky, took some fiddeling.

Great observation on sink tips, I have a couple of lines that are dedicated to sink tips, I've stripped the core and done a loop to loop with the core and served over. Runs through the guides easier. Good use for the old lines.

I do like a floating line with a sink tip most of the time. Makes pickup for the cast easier. It is a good idea to carry a full sink when they are hanging in that lower layer.
