  1. So I have a little boy, almost 4. He got an Echo practice rod when he was 2. He fished a Sage TXL2710 with a Sage Click II, he's really got a handle on streamer angling and has just started mixing it up with hopper-dropper rigs. He's banged out some sweet gold during high waters, I couldn't be prouder. We recently got back from a camping and fishing trip, and he said something that cut me to the core. He got his hands on classically coloured rainbow, he was blown away. He then told me the rainbow is now his favorite fish..... WTF? What did I do as a father to fail in such a manner? Rainbows.... come on, I told him they are the equivalent to Instagram butt models, no substance, no soul, just the same looks as next one. I did the only things I could think, I sprayed bug spray and SPF on his flies, broke his TXL over my knee and then took him to WalMart bought him an uglystick and some Raps. I think I'm going to head to the downtown browntown section with a bottle of wild turkey and contemplate my very existence. Thoughts? Flyfishy where you at sucka?

  2. I just am curious if anyone knows the back story behind the tombstone/memorial, kind of hidden on the banks of the Oldman river. I'm sure most of you haven't seen it as it's a big, long river and it doesn't stand out. It's set near some shrubs, up against a rock pile and reads "At Peace, Steven and Gerald". I first stumbled across it last summer, but just wondered who these 2 were. It looks like people have left rocks beside it. This rock pile is getting bigger and bigger. Maybe someone out there knew these two guys. It's in such a beautiful place and just a touching tribute by the family or families.

  3. In total agreement with all the comments surrounding CFD river patrols. I got steamed when the rationale being portrayed for taking 1 fire boat out of service was budget constraints...total PR stunt. If the budget was truly an issue then maybe stop sending fire trucks to every medical call (that's what EMS is for).

  4. Around the flood, they were "testing out the UHMW on the bottom", and jumping the boat over some of the side channel bits on Poplar Island during high water... Good thing we're not even supposed to wade over there. It's a toy to them. Spend enough time on the river and you'll see them just spinning it in circles, taking bikini-laden women for rips, and then going for rips out of town just for the hell of it (no jurisdiction downstream of Deerfoot extender). Everyone should be taking videos of them being idiots and be sharing them widely... They cant even give out tickets without a peace officer on board, so the enforcement angle is bunk. Hell, the COs use small jet-skis and also run them quietly and away from anglers unless they're checking them.

  5. Don, yup noticed the same the week after opening. Raggedy Ass Road was empty. Zilch. Nada. Love it. I did see a few of quads. We were interviewed on-water by a couple 'kids' form ACA I think about fishing, our gear, our boots, if we knew about the clean drain dry initiative etc. We asked about the OHVs and told new only a few days prior so they were expecting some 'failure to comply'. The 4 guys I saw down a track - with truck, trailer and another truck with quads off-loaded were a bit 'rough' for an old fart accompanied by wife and dog to try to 'edumacate'. I'd personally love to see OHVs banned province wide, for recreational purposes. Need for work (surveyors etc) or farm, fine. Except, of course, for 'purpose built' OHV 'parks' where anything goes. Ya wanna get dirty, there's the place for that.
