<p>
	Hello everyone,
</p>

<p>
	I’m <strong>RonoFlies</strong>, a fly tier from Kenya. I’ve recently joined the forum because I’m interested in connecting with fellow fly tiers and fly fishers from around the world.
</p>

<p>
	I hand-tie a variety of trout and fly-fishing patterns, with a strong focus on clean finishing, correct proportions, consistency, and quality materials.
</p>

<p>
	Here is one of my <strong>Size 16 Pheasant Tail Nymphs</strong>. I’d really appreciate any feedback or advice from the more experienced tiers in the community, especially regarding the proportions and overall profile.
</p>

<p>
	It’s great to be here, and I look forward to learning, sharing and connecting with everyone.
</p>

<p>
	Greetings from Kenya! <span class="ipsEmoji">🇰🇪</span><span class="ipsEmoji">🎣</span>

<p>Not an IT techie, so my apologies in advance if this post doesn't work, and for the poor quality photos.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>However, I need some help identifying this fish - arctic char or brookie?</p>
<p> </p>
<p>There were no vermiculations on its back, just spots (all yellow), and belly color was decidedly red.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>Any thoughts?  Thanks</p>

<p>After much planning and pleading for a hiking partner, I decided to venture to Harvey Lake in Jasper National Park. Rumors of good fishing in a remote section of JNP was all the motivation I needed. I managed to find a hiking rookie from work that was willing to go. I only had 5 days to do the trip and the "in" to the lake was 40 km. I figured it could be done with some long days of hiking. Off to Jasper we went on a Wednesday and decided to hike as far as we could starting at 6:00 PM. We hiked until after dark around 10:30 and under a near full moon set up our tent. We were most of the way up Elysium Pass and my hiking partner was struggling with the up but we were happy to be on our way. The next day we hiked from 9-7 through an alpine meadow section named Monarch meadows.</p>
<p>
<img src="http://img72.imageshack.us/img72/8347/p1010011io1.jpg" border="0" alt="p1010011io1.jpg" /></p>
<p>
It was easy hiking to a low pass with only a few bushwhacking sections but still 10 hours of hiking</p>
<p> </p>
<p>
Here is from the top of the pass looking towards the headwaters of a creek that we would be following all of the next day.</p>
<p>
<img src="http://img187.imageshack.us/img187/5358/p1010027hh8.jpg" border="0" alt="p1010027hh8.jpg" /></p>
<p> </p>
<p>
Our goal was to get to a lake that an old Jasper Outfitter Curly Phillips had used when he used to travel to the lake in 30's.</p>
<p>
But alas some movement caught my eye, something was coming towards us with a big furry animal in its mouth. It dropped the animal when it saw me and scurried off into the willows. "I just saw a small Grizzly" I announced to my exhausted hiking partner. We watched some more before I realized that it was no Grizzly but something much rarer to see. I'd just spotted a Wolverine. We crept a bit closer and hid behind a rock to watch as I knew that it would come back for the animal. Sure enough we got to watch not 1 but 2 wolverines keep standing up sniffing the air cautiously trying to come back to their kill. I managed a few blurry pictures and one clear one. We watched the wolverines for 10 minutes until they stopped coming back into our view. I really wanted to go and see what I was sure a dead marmot but refrained thinking we shouldn't be disturbing such a wild animal. Too bad you can't zoom in on these resized photos like the originals. The Wolverine was about 25 meters away.</p>

<p> </p>
<p>
Excited but also a bit fearful for hanging our night's food we plodded further down the valley to our destination. A beautiful un-named lake that really felt like our own private lake. It had very old signs of camping like broken branches but not even 1 fire pit. It was still pristine and we kept it that way.</p>
<p>

<p> </p>
<p>
The next day we followed at times a very faint horsetrail, and other times a heinous bushwhack. Did I also mention that it rained the whole day. We started a 8:30 in the morning and hiking through soggy mossy forests and willows that had us soaked to the bone. It was wet and cold. Here's some of the actual trail we went through</p>
<p>
<img src="http://img205.imageshack.us/img205/5411/p1010046np6.jpg" border="0" alt="p1010046np6.jpg" /></p>
<p> </p>
<p>
My hiking partner was really struggling with his feet but we pressed on. As we got close to the snaring river, we lost all semblance of trail and hiked down some steep horrid willowy sections until finally reaching the Snaring and crossed it (just shy of waste deep). It was now after 5 PM. Our plan was to press on to the lake.</p>
<p>
<img src="http://img206.imageshack.us/img206/9499/p1010048qy2.jpg" border="0" alt="p1010048qy2.jpg" /></p>
<p> </p>
<p>
Wet and exhausted, mildly hypothermic, we made it to the lake around 8:30 PM after climbing up its outlet creek, yes 12 hours of hiking. My partner's knees ankles and open blisters on his heels were making me worried. I was worried that my excitement and passion in getting to the Lake were clouding my judgement. I was very fit and experienced, he was not. Here's the first look at the lake.</p>
<p>
<img src="http://img371.imageshack.us/img371/6959/p1010055zv0.jpg" border="0" alt="p1010055zv0.jpg" /></p>
<p>
We ate late that night but we had made it to our destination. We set up our tent in the pouring rain at 10:30 that night. Did I mention how much I hate setting up tents in the rain with no discernable area to set up. We settled for a mossy section that was quite slanted but free of willows.</p>

	This fish is laying in the water...just saying.

<p>
	Between my ultra shitty home life and dwindling eyesight I haven’t fished, golfed or done much of anything in the last three years...other than drink myself to sleep every night.
</p>

<p>
	anyways I caught this little fish yesterday and took a pic of it. That just hasn’t happened in awhile. <br />

	It’s been quite a few years since I’ve put in the time exploring the east slopes of the Rockies, but I rectified that this year. For the past couple of months, I have spent at least two days a week walking and wading a beautiful mountain stream, trying to learn some of its secrets. It’s been food for the soul and I have been rewarded with awesome scenery, beautiful fish and nature at its finest

	Over the years I have collected or been handed down vintage fly fishing items. Have a modest collection of reels and other items that I will post if people are interested.
</p>

<p>
	Here is a Hardy St John these early reels where hand made and often had the makers initials stamped inside. Some of these where tagged with the companies name. This one according to the data base was made by James Smith for James Niel and Son's in Nova Scotia.

<p>
	I had the pleasure of taking part in the Wyoming Cutt-Slam on my recent cross country road trip in mid August. As per usual with this trip, my time was limited to a few hours at each location, but the experience was amazing and took me to some places I likely would never see otherwise. Fortunately the fish cooperated and allowed me to catch the 4 native cutthroat species in day.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	A Headwaters Creek with Bonneville Cutthroat. Jeep-high willows all around and tons of fish. Took just one cast to catch this subspecies but I stayed around for many more.
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="1.jpg" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="75.00" height="750" width="1000" src="https://i.ibb.co/Dwzx6Vs/1.jpg" /><img alt="2.jpg" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="75.00" height="750" width="1000" src="https://i.ibb.co/d6sYSVd/2.jpg" /><img alt="3.jpg" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="133.33" height="750" width="562" src="https://i.ibb.co/vvvk8bF/3.jpg" /><img alt="4.jpg" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="75.00" height="750" width="1000" src="https://i.ibb.co/4scVG4f/4.jpg" /></p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Headwaters Creek with Colorado River Cutthroat. Much more elusive but managed to catch a couple here.
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="5.jpg" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="68.69" height="686" width="1000" src="https://i.ibb.co/njjrf4p/5.jpg" /><img alt="6.jpg" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="75.00" height="750" width="1000" src="https://i.ibb.co/Y7DCHnN/6.jpg" /><img alt="7.jpg" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="75.00" height="750" width="1000" src="https://i.ibb.co/JQbcsws/7.jpg" /><img alt="8.jpg" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="75.00" height="750" width="1000" src="https://i.ibb.co/sVQ1cft/8.jpg" /></p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	My favorite stop of the trip. You can drive this river from the headwaters to the bottom (and i did) - it starts as a trickle and ends looking like the highwood in run off. I fished it at a few access points in the upper sections, where at first my fly was refused by some surprisingly large Snake River cutties. I eventually managed to land a couple fish as I changed flies. It was nice to be challenged on this river, it made me like it even more. The scenery was amazing and the fishing was top quality, i'll definitely be back on this river the first chance I get.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	<img alt="9.jpg" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="75.00" height="750" width="1000" src="https://i.ibb.co/5GWM6yW/9.jpg" /><img alt="10.jpg" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="75.00" height="750" width="1000" src="https://i.ibb.co/hKCMTp9/10.jpg" /><img alt="11.jpg" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="75.00" height="750" width="1000" src="https://i.ibb.co/C6Sb6P2/11.jpg" /><img alt="12.jpg" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="133.33" height="750" width="562" src="https://i.ibb.co/RBQq57c/12.jpg" /><img alt="13.jpg" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="58.62" height="586" width="1000" src="https://i.ibb.co/5KsxKzn/13.jpg" /></p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Last stop to catch some Yellowstone Cutthroat. Yellowstone park isn't very dog friendly, so this area was about the only option for me. Another amazingly scenic area with awesome red-tinged rock features and lots of willing cutts. A close second favorite.
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="15.jpg" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="75.00" height="750" width="1000" src="https://i.ibb.co/dGyGNGq/15.jpg" /><img alt="16.jpg" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="75.00" height="750" width="1000" src="https://i.ibb.co/MPHcCF2/16.jpg" /><img alt="17.jpg" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="139.07" height="750" width="539" src="https://i.ibb.co/9bT2HK9/17.jpg" /><img alt="18.jpg" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="75.00" height="750" width="1000" src="https://i.ibb.co/zFqprRm/18.jpg" /><img alt="19.jpg" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="74.99" height="749" width="1000" src="https://i.ibb.co/3TLZ9Q8/19.jpg" /><img alt="Wyoming-Cutt-Slam.jpg" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="75.00" height="480" width="640" src="https://i.ibb.co/CzzFp9x/Wyoming-Cutt-Slam.jpg" /></p>

<p>
	All finished, this trip was an awesome experience and i'm so glad i did it. Planning the locations to catch each species was a big part of the adventure so I haven't named any creeks and encourage any future challenge seekers to plan it your own way (Ask if you really want). Each system was uniquely awesome, and despite doing this on a Saturday in mid August, I didn't cross paths with another angler.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Bonus: Stopped at a popular place near Missoula on my way down South. Lots of Rocks....
</p>
