Optimal Weight For Nymphs??

New tyer here.

I've been playing around trying to get my nymphs as heavy as possible without being too bulky. The ones I'm liking are averaging between .20 and .25 grams, which seems to be a tad heavier than their store bought counterparts. I'd love to get most of the weight I need into the flies and forgoe the splits. Is this even possible? I'm thinking about trying some of those tungsten beads.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I realize that UV resins are great and I use them, but when did old fashioned head cement become impossible to find??

Hey All, just started tying with Solarez UV resins, specifically as an epoxy head substitute and as a thin shine on the dirty worm. Used the Loon UV products last offseason, and I found that the epoxy heads kept peeling off. Just curious as I’m in the process of tying spring flies and I don’t want a couple dozen flies that I end up junking, how have you all found the product? Thanks!

Snowshoe and PB underfur for dry fly bodies

Hi folks - I have several snowshoe rabbits feet that a friend snarred this winter and gave. And I lucked upon a polar bear rug that was cut up into small packages and sold for fly tying (legal here in Canada).

I’ve noticed that right next to the hide on both the feet and PB there is a super super fine layer of cotton-like underfur that I am thinking would make superb ultra-fine dry fly body dubbing.

Has anyone used it? Does it work?

Appreciate your advice.

Stonfo transformer vise

Looking for some help. I have a Stonfo Transformer vise. I purchased the Stonfo magnifying glass as well. Mine mounts on the stem of the vise. I've seen some mount into one of the holes in the vise. I can't seem to figure out how to put it in the Base?

Does anyone know of a soft hackle pattern for a Greenwells Glory?

I’ve been tying wets with varying degrees of success but would love to find a good soft hackle pattern.

Also looking for any suggestions on body colour if I don’t have cobblers wax and silk thread.

I’ve been using olive stretch floss and it looks pretty good.

Be advised, ordered a bunch of hackle from this outfit feather emporium. (needed Size 10 and 12 hackle). Payed with paypal. He will not return phone calls nor answer emails but will take your money!!!! Had to put a claim in threw paypal and after a good month my package is in the mail. It'll be interesting to see if i actually get what i ordered.

A number of years ago I was able to pickup a large bag of Flashabou dubbing

I think it came from a company call Mertz or something like that .

I need it in black for tying a few dozen #6 leaches

All I seem to be finding is small bags of hareline dubbing.
